I guess they are an okay R compound tire. I am spoiled by running Yoko and Pirelli slicks on my race car.Mostly to control the 800hp lol. R888R are also a great track tire too.
I used to use Yoko, Toyo, Michelin and Nitto R compounds before slicks.ya, mines not a race car. i drive it quite often. so not exactly apples to apples.
Toyo R888R is NOT a drag radial and does NOT have a soft sidewall…at all. I run them on my 1059 WHP Camaro SS (street use) and they are fantastic…run low 30’s PSI like the OP just switched to. On a roll race car or high HP street car that would normally need a big drag radial (which are terrible on the street), then the R888R is the tire for you. They have great roll race traction and are much more stable at highway speeds than drag radials. They’re not great at the drag strip though since the stiff sidewall is not optimal in that setting…much better off with a small wheel beadlock (15”-17”) running Mickey Thompson ET Street R or the like. What am I missing here? Why in the hell would you use drag radials and their soft sidewalls?

Agreed…once you get into the big power realm virtually all “normal good handling” car tires are trash and really unsafe at some point. I had the great handling 305/30/20 Goodyear Supercar 3 on the back of my car when I was “only” making mid 800 WHP and they were useless at anything over 25% throttle. Made driving the car a PITA.Depends on your applications. The super sports has zero traction once the boost came on.
My R888R seem to be holding 800+ho just fine. Much better than the Michelins. Tires suspending and traction control all work when done properly.anybody remember MKIV supras having a reputation for being dyno queens? this is why. anything beyond 600rwhp and you're making serious trade offs.
Going back to your original post for a second, one other thing we found in the Camaro world was if the rear alignment was off at all, things got crazy when you doubled the car’s horsepower lol… I’m 100% sure it’s the same story here with S550s. So definitely worth having checked if the car wants to wander around on a straight road.My R888R seem to be holding 800+ho just fine. Much better than the Michelins. Good point. All stock suspension ever since lowering the pressure the car has been much betterGoing back to your original post for a second, one other thing we found in the Camaro world was if the rear alignment was off at all, things got crazy when you doubled the car’s horsepower lol… I’m 100% sure it’s the same story here with S550s.
