As I asked.....how easy with the key fob and no actual key? Do the thieves have the technology?

Yes, its possible with the right knowledge. They can even scan your house from the outside for the signal from your fob and duplicate it. Various signal duplication systems are available on the web, as is the knowledge to build from scratch.

Buy insurance.

The average punk on the street can't steal a modern car or truck today, they don't have the technology to steal them easily and quickly. That's why car jackings are on the rise, when you jack a car, you get the key (or fob) along with it.

As others have said, It can be stolen, but it going to take a pro with the right tools to do it.

On a related note, here in Cleveland the most stolen vehicle is 20+ year old Chrysler mini vans. They are pre chipped keyed vehicles so they are easy to steal and they are the vehicle of choice for smash and grab ATM robberies.

I think you are pretty safe unless you leave it running at the curb. They don't need the technology, just the opportunity. However an interesting fact:

And here’s the list of the 10 most frequently stolen new cars last year and the number of thefts reported:

  1. Nissan Altima: 1,153
  2. Toyota Camry: 1,100
  3. GMC Sierra: 957
  4. Hyundai Elantra: 929
  5. Ford Fusion: 874
  6. Ford F-150: 842
  7. Ram Pickup: 835
  8. Toyota Corolla: 832
  9. GMC Savana: 774
  10. Hyundai Sonata: 759
Stolen used cars were Hondas and the F150

Anything can be stolen with a tow truck, which are often easier to steal. They don't have to start your car to steal it. I've seen cars stolen by breaking the steering lock and pushing it with another car.

Some do. It's apparently a big problem in the UK based on threads in these forums.

When that happens it's usually going to a chop shop, they don't need to start it for the parts, it's getting cut up as soon as it gets there. Also, every modern push button start vehicles I've driven do not have a steering column lock, including the mustang and they all have electric power steering so you need to have arms of steel to steer the car with the key off.

I towed cars for 23 years. Every car I pushed out to tow was wrestle steering. Got good at it. Once a car is going 5 mph, no need for power steering. They steer much easier at speed. That said, if a thief has a tow truck, 10 seconds and your car is gone. Before you can grab your gun and walk out the front door, it's gone!

I’m thinking the enhanced security package with the cross bolt that goes through the steering column should make it harder to steal. Hopefully

Harder to drive away, not harder to steal.

My car with the enhanced security package does lock the steering wheel if you turn it towards one side much like older models. It also has the other lock which you can hear after it’s locked

My fobs hang on a board next to the interior garage door. I'm confident they will not be read and duplicated because they are in these two-for-fifteen-dollar Amazon pouches:
MONOJOY 2 X Car Key Signal Blocker Case, Keyless Entry Fob Guard Signal Blocking Pouch Bag, Antitheft Lock Devices, Healthy Cell Phone Privacy Protection Security WIFI/GSM/LTE/NFC/RF Blocker

Hanging them up is a few seconds longer of a routine, but easy enough. The pouches do work: you can put a fob in a pouch right on the console and the car won't see it.

This is what I meant. Technology not just stealing it by tow.
