The short of it is, I know what getting a tune means. But I do not know what people mean when they start throwing around names like "Lund Racing", "Wengerd Performance", "Palm Beach", etc.

Are those company names and you have to go to one of their two locations in the US to get the tunes, or are those just the names of specific prebuilt tunes that you can get installed almost anywhere, etc.?

From there, how do y'all go about choosing which tune/tuner to use? Everyone seems to say that THEIR tuner is the best but what makes a good tune/tuner and why did you chose yours?

Those are tuning companies. Just go to the website of the tuner you want to use and buy a tune along with any other requirements like credits and a flashing device. These cars do not require in person tuning for most common setups, it can all be done via email in your driveway.

This is where this thread will go off the rails. You’re going to find that every person who says their tuner is the best will probably have similar reasons as the next person. You’ll also get some people that quote records for their tuner of choice as the reason they’re the best. I’m sure there are others that are going to say everyone stole someone else’s tunes so you should just use the original tuner.

At the end of the day, there are only so many screws to turn inside the PCM, especially if it’s a basic NA setup or a common power adder combo. The major differentiating factors are drivability and customer service.

Edited to add: I realize I didn’t answer your last question. My tuner is the best, and the reason I chose him is because my tuner is me. I experience the best customer service and the best response times, literally instant responses. I know exactly how I want the car to drive so I just make it do what I want. I know exactly what’s going on inside the PCM because I’m the one that made all the changes and I’ve done all the data logging. If I want to do something unique that the mainstream tuners won’t do, I can just do it.

I read the title, and had two thoughts.

1. Oh it's probably a typo, they want a tuner

2. Or it's Aussie slang for a steering wheel and this is going to be a real fun read!!!

Alas, it's just number one. Sigh...

Everyone's tuner is the best, and the worst.

Do your own research. For example, the guys putting my car back together highly recommended a specific tuner. The builder has a long history with this tuner, and a good relationship. I'm asking for a very minor tune, a little more power, etc....and I'm comfortable I'll get something decent. Probably not amazing, probably not bad. My biggest concern is keeping the engine cool, and the only real answer to that is to learn tuning myself, and do the tuning myself. And with two kids under 6, and a full time job, not to mention a happy marriage, I just don't have the time for that yet. Therefore, I'm going with someone who I think can get me 90% of what I want.

I can report back what happens once I get the car back. As best I can tell, the only way to really go crazy with tuning is to go with a standalone ECU, and I do have the $$$ for that just let.

What are you going to do yourself that a well known tuner can't do? And what are you going to do with a standalone that the stock ECU won't?

I just did a lot of research on here, facebook and other places online to gather as much info as I could and picked who I thought would be the best.

It's not that they can't do it. It's that I want to know what I am plugging into my car. Learn how it reacts to this input change or that input change. How many people can say what their injector settings were, and what they are now?

What would I do with a standalone ECU? Learn. It's more about learning a sweet new skill.

The other advantage to ordering from us is that we have 8 AM to 10 PM Customer Service seven days a week
So, besides getting the communication with the tutor, you have us to help you with anything you need as well

THIS IS THE BEST ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION ASK A SHOP OWNER AND LET HIM STEER YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, BECAUSE THESE GUYS WILL HAVE YOU SO CONFUSED. I have found out that you need a mechanic shop you can trust and will tell you the pros and cons. I was tuned buy BAMA and it was a little bit better than stock then I went to Rob Shoemaker (recommended by my shop, had and issue with CEL sent email he fixed with in minutes.)
