As the subject states - is there someone on here in the know who can explain facts surrounding the Ford "Jobs" as in, "Job 1", etc??

What exactly is "Job 1" and what is the importance of a "Job" with regards to assembly line production and model year production?

Thanks!

As I understand it, Job 1 is when they start production of a new generation vehicle. If you watch A Faster Horse on Prime or maybe Netflix, you hear them reference Job 1 frequently and that was the start of production of S550 after the retirement of S197. It’s basically the target date for production vehicles to start rolling off the line.

Middle managements "keyword" to make it look like they did something while the production line shift managers did all the heavy lifting with the line workers..
In the 80's it was used by the ad marketing team, to make customers think they (Ford) and those building the vehicles, cared ,while pumping out tempo's and probes.

I'm going to paraphrase what I read from multiple threads, across different forums.

Job 1 will be the first batch of vehicles for that Model Year.

Job 2 vehicles will include late availability items, now ready for installs, improvements (changes) to the assembly process, parts design modifications, updates due to recalls, etc.

Job 3 and later will be same.

One can think of Job 1, 2, 3...as MY.0, MY.1, MY.2, etc.

Updates or modifications occur throughout the MY. Ford initially creates a "build" and locks that. Any later potential changes are tested, reviewed and agreed to first. Several could occur over time. Ford later pushes the "new" build, with those changes on a specified date.

It's my belief most key-in on Job 1, confirming the production start of a new MY.
