Camaro interior vs Mustang interior

Why would they? Camaro isn't the Mustang's benchmark... the Mustang is the Camaro's benchmark... who gives a crap about the Camaro. I doubt Ford is feeling pressured by GM engineers and designwork.

I find the new Camaro's interior to look pretty good, at least from the shots I've seen. But final verdicts can't be made until we see some pictures of a more base interior and actually touch the materials.

But based on the initial photos, I like what I see.

But there are other cars which don't. The Mercedes C-class, for instance, features a much smaller gauge cluster screen (although it adds a few more options). The BMW 3 series opts for analog gauges, and a screen much smaller than even the Mustang's gauge cluster screen.

The industry may be going this way -- but I don't think it's a clear-cut thing for all cars. I do think we'll see a cluster more similar to the F150 in the Mustang, come 17 or 18 model years. But I don't consider this a big deal either.

In fact, I'm increasingly preferring the subtle and simplistic over plastering large LCDs everywhere. It's a car, not a spaceship. I do love the Track Apps, though!

I wish my car was a spaceship. If a LCD gauge cluster is the first step to that, bring it on!

TL;DR - being flashier doesn't always mean being more aesthetically pleasing, and I agree with you. I sometimes miss the gauge cluster from my E92. It was a minimal analog design with a shallow recess that aged incredibly well in my eyes. I like my S550's instrument displays a lot. If anything, I just wish the binnacles weren't so deep.

Agreed. I drove around a '12 C-class for awhile, and liked that as well. German design tends toward the subtle and efficient, and I think Ford was attempting to do something similar.

One article I read said the Mustang was "more BMW than BMW." Not sure I'd go that far, but the European minimalism influence is definitely apparent. I happen to like it.

You'll see the F150 digital display in the '17 Mustang for sure. Ford will have to counter with more digital gauges.

We went through a "digital dash" phase 30 years ago. They sucked then, and continue to suck, because they are too much info. A glance at an analog gauge shows the position of the needle. Straight down is usually good. That's all you need to know. On a tach, redline is straight up (if it's done right) You can watch that out of the corner of your eye. With digital, you have to read and process the entire number. It takes longer, and it takes more focused thought that could be spent driving.

Same reason that digital watches are no good for general time-telling. A glance at the dial, it's nearly 9:30. The digital clock says 9:25. When is that? Oh, yeah, that's a little before 9:30. Not so reflexive. Don't believe me? Wear your old analog watch for even a day.

The Camaro 5G interior is an exercise in pre-bankruptcy GM crap quality mixed with Godzilla-eats-Tokyo styling. It's gawdawful. One of the worst ever. Your opinion is a minority of one, so be proud.

The 6G interior looks to be of better quality materials, I will give you that. But it's still explosively ugly and overstyled, especially next to the Mustang. You can absolutely have it.

On the one hand, I like the F150 gauge screen. On the other hand, I don't know if it'll actually look good in the Mustang gauge cluster. The interior design Ford went with for the Mustang could be best described as "elegant simplicity." I don't know if cramming gadgets and baubles in it is the best idea.

That being said, like it or not, car manufacturers seem to be going through a "tack on LCD displays everywhere" sort of phase right now, so we'll probably see something like that in the Mustang's future, eventually.

The Camaro 6th gen interior looks like the center stack display was just pasted on after the fact.

I think it has little to do with a current phase or trend. You can have the same unit across vehicle platforms and just have unique screens and bezels. This allows you to use and design for like parts across multiple platforms and save alot of money. Yet you can easily change the cluster display each year if you wanted to. Doing this allows you to buy in bulk, and set supplier pricing (something Ford is very good at). Screens have alot of benefits to the OEM and the Customer.
