Hi guys!
I'm a new member to the forums and the world of mustangs. I'm currently driving a 2009 MB C300 and have been itching for something sportier and more powerful for a while now. My family and I have mostly only ever owned German or Japanese for the past 30 years so this would be something different. I was actually looking at BMW M240i's at first but a friend convinced me to try the GT. Both are loads of fun to drive, especially the low end TQ on the BMW but the sound and feel of the V8 is what sold me. I plan on keeping the car for a couple years or so - not long term like my current mercedes. Might eventually get on that BMW B58 inline 6 turbo after the stang...or maybe not
I'll be daily driving in rush hour traffic and occasionally tracking the GT, and want something with all the creature comforts my merc had. Don't want a convertable, not a fan of the soft top look. For sure the 10 speed for traffic, performance and ease of use. I want the Magnaride for the rough CA roads and performance, PP1 for performance and magnaride. Premium package for the leather seats, creature comforts and android auto. Digital dash is cool, so is active exhaust but neither are necessary to me. Would rather have active exhaust over dash tho. Also all the cars my fam has are on the grey scale - would be really cool to get an Orange, red or blue stang. I want used 2018 for the cost savings and updated features, I don't care about having a new car as long as its in good condition. However, it's really hard to find a 2018 GT with all these options since most leases are 3 year 36 month and anything else on the market is a premium 1 rental.
So here I am about to pull the trigger on a grey 2018 PP1, premium mustang GT 10speed with digital dash and magnaride. I drove it and it was just as awesome as the other 2018 GT's I've driven. Has over a year of bumper to bumper warranty and over 3 years of powertrain warranty left. Meets all my required packages and even has the digital dash as well. This is all great right? I found it on craigslist from a small one man operation used car dealership in my area. I was told by the salesguy that it was a 2 year lease and previously wrapped. My fam, friends and I always buy from an authorized dealer so this is uncharted territory for me.
I have some hesitations with the car though. He(salesguy) unwrapped it himself, and the paint looks mostly good but left some paint chips near the GT badge - probably when removing the wrap. The paint also has tape residue on it still in some places. On the test drive there was a slight rattle in the shift knob area and the sales guy said that the dealer would easily fix it under warranty. It took almost a decade for my mercedes to develop any rattles. The stang has 24k miles on it - I figured this was actually a 3 year 36 month lease with 8k miles allowed a year for a total of 24k miles over 3 years. So maybe the leaser wrapped it, and drove it a bunch within 2 years to the point where they hit the mileage limit. The front tires are continentals and he replaced the rears with new michelins since the rears were super worn.
He wouldn't go below $34.5k for the car...is this a good deal? Most Gt premiums in my area with half the miles go for $30kish. I'm in no rush to buy an new car since my current one works well, but I've been looking for months and this is the only one in my area with all the options I wanted. I'm thinking I could wait another year for all the 3 year leases to end and I would have a lot more options for 2018 GTs. If the new S650 is really delayed past 2021, the 2018 won't be the old body style either so thats a plus.
What are your thoughts on this guys? I'm going to call the salesguy to see if he could move a little more on the price.
Thanks!
