Hi all

I am considering purchasing a used Mustang GT out of state later this week. It is a 2019 with under 14k miles. The seller sent me multiple pics which included the ones I attached of the engine bay. When looking at the pics I noticed that some type of stickers were removed from the plastic just behind the radiator. Does any have any ideas on what these stickers were or what someone might have stuck there?

Pretty good evidence the car was modded. Stock cars have no sticker there.
I was thinking that as well, but not sure with what. The car is very clean, Oasis report has no warrant work completed. Prior owner put on XPEL and splash guards which makes me think he babied it. I’m going to check it out on Friday weather permitting.

Looks like it had been modded and returned to stock. All the plastics are sure in nice shape. Probably most have been sitting on a shelf somewhere.

Why not just ask the seller? At the very least I would want to see under the engine cover.

It’s at a dealership. Normally I try to buy from PP but this one came up, is a good deal and has the options I’m looking for. I’ll see if the dealer will reach out to the seller and ask about mods.

a lot of dealers will do a quick spray down of the engine bay with a degreaser and pressure washer to clean it up. telltale sign is white water spots or white residue on the plastics. Since that area in the center behind the hood latch is relatively flat, my guess is that is some of the gunk that they cleaned off fell there and wasn't rinsed away properly, allowing it to dry and leave that residue behind.

My brand new 2020 does not have a sticker in that location. I think that's just dirt residue.

I don't want to sound paranoid and/or crazy, but you really shouldn't trust a word that the dealer tells you. They lie, omit facts, and claim ignorance to anything like "modded" or "raced" or "abused" or "totaled" or "flood damage".

Spend a few hundred dollars and have them take it to an independent shop that can perform a thorough PPI for you.

BTW, adding Xpel and/or mud flaps doesn't indicate anything as far as how the car was maintained, driven or babied.

Ooh, I see that OP has an M3. Bonus points! :)

The plastic rivets have all been removed, there are a few cowl rivets missing. Looks like someone tried to clean the adhesive but gave up.

It also has hood struts...clear indication that this car once made 1000 ponies!

Hello; Something I have been doing for many years is to place strips of tape in the engine compartment on which I write service notes. That way I can know when the oil was last changed, last time and miles I changed plugs, air cleaner and so on.
I have used different sorts of tape over the decades. Some left a residue. Lately I use the blue painters tape which comes off clean.
Just a guess.

LOL on the 1000 HP. I missed the hood struts, nice catch. That probably bothers we more than the removed stickers. So this guy was either a car show nut or 1000 ponies.

I agree the PPI might be the way to go, or maybe wait for another one to come along.

The sticker residue is just from either a decal or a plate. I have a plate on mine that says coyote from anchor room, but it wouldnt leave that residue if removed. Most likely it was a decal the original owner printed themselves and not made of material to actually go there or withstand high temps. Instead it got baked on. At least that's what it looks like to me.
