I'm a "kid" older than both of you. Hard to imagine...for me! Owned many Mustangs...10th on the way...I hope! I just got in to the need for a catch can since being on here. Need on the V8's too. Lots of oil by passing the PCV system. I have a UPR unit sitting in the box waiting for a car to put it on.

I think us 60+ folks should have our own section! :headbang: I'm sure the younger crowd would like that!
OK, I'll say it:
"You kids get off my LAWN!"

It is funny how from reading posts here, for the most part, I have no sense of anyone's age. I feel like I am still young in my head and luckily my body is still doin' pretty good as well. I have never really thought much about my age. But when I turned 61 and I heard myself say that number, I thought OMG I am in my SIXTIES. :eyebulge: :)

It is a joy to hang out here where we mostly share the common theme of excitement about our cars, trepidation about WTF is my car and how soon will I get it.

Not until the 2/2 week delays, did I start to have concerns over possible quality issues for MY car (since my 2/23 build was soooooo far along in the production learning curve...).

I have hopes that all our cars come out of the process in pleasing shape (not like our darkest fears portend. :tsk: )

A) Oil Separator / Catch Can dealy & B) Break in theories

ColoradoGT,
A) I too had never heard of this device or the need for it prior to this forum. UprJoe sure does a very convincing job of convincing us that we need it. Being a frugal and skeptical young man ;), I have vacillated between:
1) not seeing a need
2) OK I understand the concept, but can a $12- $25 air compressor separator (maybe with a larger capacity and clear case or sight tube) catch maybe 50%-75% of what the higher tech 1,2,3 or now 4 stage $120+ units do. Kind of a middle ground.
3) What if I sprung for the $130 4 stage separator messiah of intake protection. Would I miss the money in the 12 years I'll keep this car? If I pulled the intake off at 120,000 miles for some maintenance and I saw pretty much the same oil residue (or lack there of) that I saw on my 2000 Sebring convertible's intake at that mileage, will I feel like a sucker? More for the time I spent removing the small canister so many times, than for the money?
4) I may just pull my PCV hose occasionally and see what, if any oil residue I see there, then decide.

B) The other new idea I never heard before was the "break it in hard to seat the rings... And that 80% of ring seating (or not) happens in the first 20 miles! " Over on the break in thread, that web site sounds pretty logical. I would love to find opinions from professional mechanics or engineers on the pros and cons of hard vs. easy engine breakins.

But, like the oil separator... What is the degree of benefit, or harm (if hard break in turns out to be more detrimental to engine longevity) of these two things. Who knows.

Funny as I read these replies etc. So many " I was told"....or "not what I was told." Who's doing the "telling?' Sales guys? Forget that. They are the LAST source of accurate info I would trust....in MOST cases. There are some VERY RARE exceptions. But, it's "hand me down" info. they are spewing too.

I passed on what I heard...Lol.....info. direct from Ford Zone Mgrs. I may also have a much more direct "line" into what's happening when my GM gets back. His Reg. Dealer Mgr, who just left for another position...was non other than...the great-great grandson of Edsel Ford. Truth! He's working all over within the company learning to become...he hopes...the man leading Ford Motor Co.

I'll try and check that link..if it's possible.
The only info I pass on here is from Rachel, at ford customer service. she is very respected here for giving info. it is up to each individual to take the info or not. I do this soley to share what I have learned regarding our cars .

Just talked to my salesperson: "I didn't know that! Thanks, I will give him (Sales Manager) the update on your new convertible". I thought for $45K, these conversations would be the reverse!

My car was built 2/3/15,still in awaiting shipment like everyone else.
Stopped by dealer to talk to salesman about delivery he said probably 3 weeks.
I'm actually in no hurry for car.reasons live in Minnesota still to cold and auto show
discounts that start in early March. While there checked out panel alignment on about 5 different
cars. Was very disappointed with what i saw.
rear window / hood, trunk and door alignment issues. Most concerning rear window on driver's side lower than passenger side where meets top of car. Also saw new car damaged in shipment and was for auction only sale next to window sticker. Looked like front windshield replaced and interior was pretty dirty for weather getting into car.took pictures but not sure to upload.

Engine break in. I do not believe in the often times stated advice..."break them in the way you drive them." So, pedal to the metal and let the chips...literally....fall where they may??? NO...

IF you keep your cars for many years of driving this is really imperative. I don't...but, I still try to follow, fairly closely, the break in of my engines.

I taught gas internal combustion engines....diesel....turbines in a Tech. School. I also taught the GE engines on the DC-10 jumbo jets. I know I've forgotten more than I know now. But some things are still stuck in the old brain.
I definitely keep my cars a long time. Bought new, 1990 Bronco, still have and drive. Bought in 2001, 2000 Sebring convertible, my daily driver that I'm getting the new convertible to replace.

ColoradoGT,
I don't know if you care to look over this link to "Break in Secrets." (though he looks way to young to be a Sage ;))
http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
If you do, I'd be interested in any opinions or debunking of what 'sounds logical' (to me) in his reasoning. Though, this may be a text book case where (my) having basic knowledge, can get you in trouble because lots of assumptions are made that I don't even know to consider.

If you are willing to check it out and share any holes in his theories, and or point to links that do, that would be appreciated. No worries at all if you don't care to. :) If you do, rather than sidetrack this 'Order' thread, probably better to go over to the 'Break In' thread I found the link at.

Thanks,
Dave
PS. Cheers to the young sixties!

No update yet this week. My dealership is unaware of any current QA hold but obviously there is one. Maybe my salesman is playing me for a fool. I'm waiting for FordService to get back to me with an update.

From what Rachel mentioned to me. My car (along with others at this plant) won't be shipped till the end of this week. I'm assuming they only ship cars out on Fridays? I'm hoping the transit to California is short or on time, otherwise I can't get the car till after 5pm which might be difficult since I'm financing through my bank. O well.

I would hope they ship more than once a week. I'm sure there is some logic to they shipping methods to save on costs so a truck or train is full prior to leaving plant
