UPDATE:

Talked to the Ford CSR today.

She basically made it sound like they were going to expedite getting a cylinder head to the dealer. I told her that I really don't feel comfortable with the repair consisting of a short block and cylinder head, and she didn't know and wasn't able to tell me what all they are replaing(going to replace the cams, timing components, etc) so I stressed that a long block would make me feel much more confident in the repair vs a short block and transferring of parts over.

She told me that with the short block replacement, she could probably get me an extended warranty to put me at ease about the repair. I basically asked her to get me a long block, or I would like to see what my options are on having them replace the vehicle. I honestly (and told her this as well) don't want to go down the road of replacement, however, if they can't make a long block happen, will probably try to get them to replace the vehicle.

From what I am reading about the Indiana lemon law, if they replace the vehicle for one of the same value, they cannot charge me a usage fee.

"REPLACEMENT
When replacing a vehicle under the Indiana lemon law, the manufacturer must provide
a replacement vehicle of comparable value. The reasonable allowance for use does not
apply to a replacement.
The manufacturer must also reimburse the consumer for:
1. Any fees for the transfer of registration or any sales tax incurred by the consumer as
a result of replacement; and
2. Necessary towing and rental costs actually incurred as a direct result of the
nonconformity.
If the replaced vehicle was financed by the manufacturer, its subsidiary, or agent, the
manufacturer, subsidiary or agent may not require the consumer to enter into any
refinancing agreement concerning the replacement vehicle that would create any
financial obligations upon the consumer that are less favorable that those of the original
financing agreement."

So, she said she would be calling me on tuesday(i believe) with more information regarding if a long block is possible, and if not, what all is going to be replaced if they do decide to continue with the short block and one head replacement.

She also told me that at that point, she will need a decision as far as weather to send the information over to the department that handles vehicle buy backs, as she is not involved with that aspect of this.

So, here's my thoughts. If they replace the long block, and as long as the car comes back in the same physical condition(no scratches, no dents, no physical damage) I would be fine with it.

If they replace the short block and one head only, as long as they replace both camshafts that were in the damaged head, and replace the timing components, oil pump(if a short block doesnt come with a new oil pump) then I would be OK with it and having an extended warranty. I still would have trust issues with the car though, and would worry about if the car would leave me stranded again or not. I feel that the trust of the vehicle at that point would come back the more mileage got put on the car.

If they just replace the short block, one head, and not the cams, timing components, and oil pump, etc, I would rather have them replace the vehicle.

Totally agree with you. Even with the long block, there may be a mistake made in the engine install. So, I think Ford will try to make you happy with the long block and I would request an extended powertrain warranty to say, 100K miles, or something like that.

If i could get the long block vs short block, I'd be thrilled. I definitely understand even a new engine there can be problems, but I feel like the risk for problems would be a lot less compared to semi-rebuilding with a short block.

We shall see I guess. The thing Im worried about too, is the fact that they have the drivers window rolled completely down and the car has just been sitting there. Cant wait to see how much dust and nasty smelling the inside of the car has.... :headbonk:

UPDATE

I called my CSR and asked her to start the review for the replacement of the vehicle. I mulled it over this weekend, and I honestly think that it is going to be the best case for me to have it replaced and not have to worry about it in the long run.

I know there is a good change my interior is now disgusting(sitting in the shop with the window rolled down for a month), and there is no guarantee that the car will ever be the same after they repair it. I would rather just wash my hands of it, and get a replacement.

Wish me luck folks. I hope that they look at my vehicle purchase history and realize that I am a die hard ford owner, and can get me a replacement so that I'm happy again.

Pretty sure my 2018 GT motor just blew. Same exact symptoms as yours. I just left the house and was going around a corner at about 15mph and the whole car shuddered and died. I tried to restart it and it sounded horrible and died again. Luckily I was a block away from my house and uphill, so I was able to roll it back home and push it into the garage. 550 miles on it. This just sucks.

That makes me feel real confident of possibly getting a 2018 as a replacement. Crappy luck man, time to get it to a dealer and see what is up.

I should be hearing from Ford tomorrow. Praying that they agree to do a replacement vehicle. I’ve found what I want, and they are going to make money off me again so I don’t see it being a problem. I have my eyes set on a 2018 orange fury performance pack. (Roughly 5k higher msrp over my base 17) Best part is my wife gave me the go ahead to spend the extra money on it. Let’s hope Ford is willing to replace my car.. if they come back and say no, then I guess it’ll be time to file a lemon law claim and potentially go the route of an attorney. I’ve been told I have a solid case, so hoping for the best.

Dang, that's not good ... hopefully it's not something major. Keep us informed of what caused the problem.

UPDATE:

Ford IS replacing the vehicle. My CSR told me that it is approved, needed to know if i wanted a buyback or replacement(I chose replacement) and said that the RAV rep will contact me within 5 business days.

So hopefully this will be coming to an end within the next few weeks here.

Glad they are replacing it. I'm assuming you're going for a 18 GT?

Congrats man. Even a better solution than getting a long block.
Oh absolutely. Ill probably be adding some money to my loan that I have with ford because what I want is more money than what mine was, but, my wife agreed that if i have the opportunity to get something better, then I might as well just do it.

From what I can tell, the 2018 equivalent of what I have(2017) is about $2000 more than mine was. for another 3-4k more, i can jump from the base model to a performance pack and the extra money it will cost will be worth it in the end.

We're that it's awesome! Congratulations to both you and Ford for doing the right thing. Keeping the window open for a month is terrible so discipline and attitude. I don't remember if you head a stick, but the 2018 is a much better shifting car and the additional horsepower is equal to a couple of thousand in mods. If spring for the magneride. Tell your wife she will enjoy the ride much better. Good job being respectful and firm in speaking with Ford. That's just great.:clap2:
