UPDATE:
Talked to the Ford CSR today.
She basically made it sound like they were going to expedite getting a cylinder head to the dealer. I told her that I really don't feel comfortable with the repair consisting of a short block and cylinder head, and she didn't know and wasn't able to tell me what all they are replaing(going to replace the cams, timing components, etc) so I stressed that a long block would make me feel much more confident in the repair vs a short block and transferring of parts over.
She told me that with the short block replacement, she could probably get me an extended warranty to put me at ease about the repair. I basically asked her to get me a long block, or I would like to see what my options are on having them replace the vehicle. I honestly (and told her this as well) don't want to go down the road of replacement, however, if they can't make a long block happen, will probably try to get them to replace the vehicle.
From what I am reading about the Indiana lemon law, if they replace the vehicle for one of the same value, they cannot charge me a usage fee.
"REPLACEMENT
When replacing a vehicle under the Indiana lemon law, the manufacturer must provide
a replacement vehicle of comparable value. The reasonable allowance for use does not
apply to a replacement.
The manufacturer must also reimburse the consumer for:
1. Any fees for the transfer of registration or any sales tax incurred by the consumer as
a result of replacement; and
2. Necessary towing and rental costs actually incurred as a direct result of the
nonconformity.
If the replaced vehicle was financed by the manufacturer, its subsidiary, or agent, the
manufacturer, subsidiary or agent may not require the consumer to enter into any
refinancing agreement concerning the replacement vehicle that would create any
financial obligations upon the consumer that are less favorable that those of the original
financing agreement."
So, she said she would be calling me on tuesday(i believe) with more information regarding if a long block is possible, and if not, what all is going to be replaced if they do decide to continue with the short block and one head replacement.
She also told me that at that point, she will need a decision as far as weather to send the information over to the department that handles vehicle buy backs, as she is not involved with that aspect of this.
So, here's my thoughts. If they replace the long block, and as long as the car comes back in the same physical condition(no scratches, no dents, no physical damage) I would be fine with it.
If they replace the short block and one head only, as long as they replace both camshafts that were in the damaged head, and replace the timing components, oil pump(if a short block doesnt come with a new oil pump) then I would be OK with it and having an extended warranty. I still would have trust issues with the car though, and would worry about if the car would leave me stranded again or not. I feel that the trust of the vehicle at that point would come back the more mileage got put on the car.
If they just replace the short block, one head, and not the cams, timing components, and oil pump, etc, I would rather have them replace the vehicle.
