I’ve been having this problem with both of my windows on the driver side and passenger side. They both screech like loud as can be when I put the windows up, but only when I’m putting them up not when they are going down. I really don’t know what to do I’ve looked up a lot of things online and I don’t see anything really on this issue or what it could be. I don’t want to go to the dealer and get bent for a diag on what’s going on. Any ideas? I’ve put WD-40and even cleaned the windows and nothing. My tints are even a little scratched on the windows I don’t know what to do. Or what would be the issue, anyone else dealt with this before ? On a 2015 Mustang ecoboost premium.

I’ve put WD-40
I'd refrain from using WD-40 on anything in those areas; it's kerosine in a can and can attack plastics and vinyls.

Can you clarify, do these sounds appear to be mechanical, like something in the physical assemblies that's worn out, coming from inside the doors? Or are they related to surface rubbing of materials or something out of alignment?

2015. How long have you owned the car? Has the car always been doing this or it's a new problem? Accident history? Any body work? Aftermarket sound system that involved removing and re-installing the door panels?

Thanks.

Edit,

Screeching. Is the window smooth as it goes up? Or is it jerking, stuttering or hesitating? Sounds like it's straining from resistance?

Okay definitely makes sense. And it sounds like rubbing maybe. It just sounds terrible and loud it’s hard to explain I will have to take a video and post it on here when I get a chance. I have owned the car since 2020. I’m almost at 100,000 miles I’m not sure if something is going bad on it but I did have it at the dealer for over a month getting other things fixed and I had them do my recalls on it which was the door handle locks which I assume would be the removal of the door panels I haven’t take the door panels off at all since I have had the car. But it started happening shortly after I got my car back from the dealership. It’s a clean title and to my knowledge nothing ever was done to it when I bought it.

Now that you mention it, it does stutter sometimes when going up along with the screeching.

I do not have experience in this area, but the thread and the day are young.

I wouldn't change anything just yet, until you get some more feedback.

In the mean time, google some local body shops, as an alternative to the dealer's. Hopefully, there are some good, established ones in the area. And if someone chimes in with some experience and tips, so much the better.

Could be as simple as the weatherstripping is worn out and needs to be replaced. Could be as advanced as the motor assembly has finally worn out.

okay, yeah that’s a good idea I’ll have to research around the area and see price ranges for a diag. I do appreciate your help though I will probably wait a little bit to see if anyone gives tips before spending the money cause I have looked into the weatherstripping and the motor assembly parts. That initially was what I was going to buy but I made an account here and figured I would just post a thread to see if anyone has tips or ideas before I spend the money.

Re-read your post.

So the locks and the dealer. IDK how long ago it was, but it might be best to visit them first, to determine if they warranty their previous work. Chat them up about the issue. Maybe just a co-incidence. Maybe they mis-adjusted something doing the lock work.

If you don't receive a good feel for it, DIY or local body folks.

There is a seal, along the top of the door panel, where it meets the glass. It goes from the front of the door panel, all the way to the rear. It is possible that those seals have become “folded over” the wrong way somehow. This would result in rubber directly contacting the glass and would sound like you describe as the window travels up. If this is indeed the case, you may be able to fix them by folding them to the correct position somehow. But more likely than not, they have become damaged and will need to be replaced.

I have thought about doing that, but they kind of already screwed me over because when I got all my recalls done when it was there, I got my backup camera done, which was on a recall as well. It was working when I dropped it off and when I got it back, it wasn’t and they said it wasn’t their fault And they wouldn’t do anything about it. so I don’t really want to go back to them.

I’ll probably look for body shops or maybe go to a different dealer I’m not sure. I’m kind of scared, I’m going to get screwed over somewhere else too.

Okay I will have to look at it on my day off and maybe take the door panel off to get to it? To see if it’s folded and if it’s damaged then that would be the weatherstripping that I need to replace on both the windows ?

Sounds like have some grit in the seals.

Clean the window seals inside door top and side seals with alcohol on a cloth wrapped on a flat edge of some some sort so can get in there.

See it that stops it. Then use spray silicon and put on cloth to get in the seals.

Could also be the seals fuzzy surface is now damaged and needs replacing just get from low milage recycler car.

This. On an older car once, I used a microfiber cloth dampened with water, wrapped around the end of a large flat head screwdriver. Thinking back, a paint stir stick would've been even better.

Roll the windows all the way down and carefully clean it. It will take a lot of passes to get it clean. Dirt getting caught in that felt guide is what causes the windows to get scratched and look like shit over time.

You might try putting some silicone grease on the rubber temporarily to see if the noise goes away. Dont use lithium as it is not recommended on rubber

The seal design on the stang is shite, I don't think it's possible to fold it over - see below :

Sounds like have some grit in the seals.

Clean the window seals inside door top and side seals with alcohol on a cloth wrapped on a flat edge of some some sort so can get in there.

See it that stops it. Then use spray silicon and put on cloth to get in the seals.

I think this (grit) is more likely.

The seals don't deflect grit or sand, the design actually encourages it to sit up against the glass, for it then to get sucked downwards when the window drops on door opening.

Check your glass for fine micro scratches, in vertical lines, following the movement of the window.

A carefully aimed / carefully used jet wash pointed down that gap clears them out perfectly.

Sit in the driver's seat and look over at the passenger seal (with the door closed) about 10mm down from the top edge of the seal - it should be nice, clean, and black. It's quite easy to spot debris in there. Either end of the seal is typically the worse (those areas are tighter on the glass).

Problem is much worse for outdoor kept cars.

If this does prove to be your problem, I have a few tricks that can help that are reasonably easy to live with.

I'm not sure why you would even consider taking it to a dealer for this.
Pull a door panel off, work the window. If the noise is gone then you've isolated the problem. If it's not gone, keep looking. Window operation is just not that complicated.
As for the backup camera, look at your work order or receipt and note what it says about what they did to it. In other words, confirm they worked on it. If they actually did then it should be returned to you in working condition. If it's not and they won't stand behind their repair then I'd call Ford's corporate office and file a complaint.

Start easy first, then do more difficult diagnosis later.

I agree with others, first start cleaning the track and weather stripping and anything else you can access, then if that does not work take the door panels off and do some cleaning.

The windows are screeching when they go up only, so pay attention to any debris pointing downward (the inverse motion of the windows going up will cause the friction giving you the scratch marks and sound).
