I was thinking about purchasing a 2013 Boss 302, but after searching on Carguru and Autotrader, the current prices for this vehicle is outrageous. Would my money be better spent on an automatic 2018 to 2021 Mustang GT. A low mileage 2013 Boss is about the same price as a late model GT. I am also considering purchasing a Mach 1 but in order to do that, I will have to sell my 2016 Mustang GT, which I would rather hold on to. The Boss is my favorite car from the previous generation. What are you'll thoughts?

What do you want out of the car?
The 302 is definitely a more "special" car but the S550 platform is better, mechanically.
Maybe some occasional light track duty. Also to have something "special" to take to weekend cars and coffee.

I think the Boss is better suited for your needs. Both will be fun on track but a regular GT won't be anything special are cars and coffee

The current prices for ALL vehicles are outrageous right now. Availability is very low too.

You have a 2016 GT....what causes you to want either a 2013 BOSS, or a 2018-2021 GT? A 2018-2021 GT won't be anymore special at a C&C than your 2016 GT.

Having owned several S197 and now several S550 Mustangs my observation is ride quality and sound. The Boss is very special mechanically in that the pistons are forged, more unique intake, etc. But, the '18 up S550s are faster and make more power.

I looked at purchasing a 2014 GT500 instead of ordering a Mach 1 and just decided I couldn't go back to the S197 platform.

Both are good. If, however you are going to go manual, the Mach 1 is worth it including getting rid of the '16 which will fetch a good price with the rising prices.

Just my opinion. All Mustangs are good!

I agree. There is nothing special about my 2016 to show at a C&C. That is why I was looking at the Boss. At most of the C&Cs that I go to, its not that often that you see a Boss. The only reason that I am considering a later model GT is for occasional track duty with the IRS and an upgraded suspension system.

I have not completely ruled out getting a Mach 1 and selling my 2016. I would probably have to order one with all the options and the color (orange) that I would want versus trying to find one on a dealer's lot. Due to the current chip shortage, it would probably be late fall before I would receive it.

Just my opinion.........the Boss 302 is my favorite S197 (a friend has a '13).......and the Mach 1 is my favorite S550. One of each would be perfection.

An '18+ S550 would be a more comfortable cruiser........the Boss 302 would be more special, especially for cars n coffee or the occasional track day.

Since you already have a 2016 that you want to keep, buy the Boss. That is a way better car show car than another S550. The 2016 and 18+ are so similar why have two? At least to me anyway.

To me, if you are dead set on keeping your 2016, buy the Boss otherwise sell it and buy a Mach 1.

I was in a similar situation a few months ago. I was ready to pull the trigger on a yellow Boss 302, but an S550 GT fell into my lap at the same price new. Where I ran into trouble was that I couldn't bear the thought of dailying a special car like the Boss and potentially risking an accident, door dings, what have you. I came to the conclusion that I wanted something I could drive every day without having to worry about it. I don't regret the S550 move, but I do think about the track days that could have been. If I had a daily driver, the Boss 302 would have been my decision.

Go get the Boss 302 if you can make it work.

New GT 10R80. I'd only get a Mach 1 if it we're a garage queen and if I we're upper class haha.

Used car prices are outrageous right now and a used Boss has likely been to hell and back. S550 is just a better platform by a GT and make it your own I'm sure it will outdo the Boss 302 after some mods.

95% of used 2012/13 B302's won't be "to hell and back", they were purchased by Enthusiasts and some "collectors". Many I've seen have accrued miles below 10-20k. I've also seen some with mileage as high as 60-100k and even those were in excellent shape.

The market is being saturated with those now just the same it's being saturated with everything else. It's a sellers market, everyone is dumping their rides to cash in and either banking that $ or buying new...

2012/13 B302 prices have been in the $28k-$45k range for the last 2-3 years, that's their norm. Anyone complaining about B302 pricing today hasn't been following them. Prices on them always varies depending on exterior color combo, if it has Recaros or not, if the Track Key has been activated, miles, overall condition and if all of the B302 Docs (Owners kit), floor mats and car cover are included.

If you're looking at a B302 LS, always expect to pay the upper region of the price scale, as those are more sought after by "collectors" than the standard B302.

I don't see B302 prices as being outrageous (yet)... give them another 5-10 years and yes, the standard B302 will be in the upper echelon of $50k+ and the LS will be pushing $70k, again depending on the criteria noted above.

Take a 2012/13 B302 over a cookie cut S550 if you're looking for something unique and plan to hold onto it for a few years.

Hit up this forum if you want to know lots more about the 2012/13 B302s (or the classics):

Unless the S550 you’re considering is a new Mach 1, I vote 2013 Boss 302 all day. Super cool and considerably more rare than GT350/500. (At least in my area)
