........ Let us know how the h-pipe install goes, the ends of mine were not expanded enough to allow the stock exhaust piping to slide in, and per the comments on CJ's website I wasn't the only one who experienced this. We struggled with it for quite some time before getting it to work.
You're not alone...it was hard to install because the end flanges of the MRT H-Pipe are too tight. I let CJ know through a post a couple of months ago when I installed mine.

I had the entire exhaust out from resonator to mufflers so I could cut the pipes easier. So I experimented putting the end pipes into the end of the H-Pipe at that time. Even with pipes laying on the ground it was difficult. I used wD-40 and kept twisting them to get the ends to expand. When installing under vehicle it was still difficult but finally got them in.

I warned the shop I took mine to today about this. Curious to see if CJPP took notice and maybe they arent so challenging to fit this time? Ill confirm or deny that later today...

Exactly the same story with me. Luckily we did the install at my brother-in-law's best friend's shop who is a fairly experienced mechanic. Between wd-40 and him grinding the ends of the stock piping, we finally got it to go in. But it was definitely much more hassle than it should have been. The Roush axlebacks literally took 30 seconds to install.

I think everybody that has the roush axle backs has been happy with the sound. But a lot of folks do end up taking out the resonator because it takes away most of the volume. If you want louder if say do the xpipe first. If you want a better tone. The roush axle backs are king.
I prefer the sound of the Stainless Works H-pipe catback myself. The x-pipes are too raspy in my opinion.

Why do people insist on keeping the suitcase?
1. Wasn't sure I wanted something as loud as a system w/o the resonator
2. No substantial horsepower gains from switching it out.
3. Cost
4. All the great reviews of the Roush axleback..I was sold on the Roush until I saw the black chrome tips on the Borla.

Reading all these posts I wonder why more people haven't purchased Borla's touring kit. It uses S type muffs and adds a very nice free flowing mid muff that seems to have an H type crossover inside.

I just got mine today and unfortunately didn't get a chance to install it. I "should" be able to tomorrow night if mission control, aka the wife, allows it.

I will update you all tomorrow how I like it. I just removed and sold my FFRP Sport kit for this kit so I will have a good idea how the mid muff works.

So I got the Borla S Type with MRT H-Pipe installed today. I was totally worried about it being too loud. I have to say I love it! The only thing I can knock it for is a WOT it can still get a rasp to it and I got an H-Pipe hoping to avoid that.

On start-up it sounds amazing..deep rumble to a low idle. Normal driving - shifting gears around 2500-3000 RPM, it sounds really aggressive and definitely louder than stock or if I would have just installed the AB and left the resonator in place.

My iPhone isnt giving me any good videos to post so I will take some with a GoPro at some point tomorrow.

Overall Im really pleased with the set up and cant wait to fire her up in the morning.

Firstly, I came out of a 2012 gt with the Borla S type axleback and I loved it. Perfect sound in my opinion. Now, on the 2015, went with the axleback again. Obviously this means I left the resonator in place to try and save $300-400 bucks since there are no real HP gains to be had. Well, I'm dissapointed. It does not sound like my 2012. It's louder than the stock, but the tone is just a bit off and it's kind of muffled if you ask me. I am guessing this must be the resonator, but I'm skeptical to chop it out at this point.

Anyone else running the axleback? If so, opinions? I'll try and get a video with a sound clip soon.

Option A - replace the resonator with an x. My shop will weld in a custom x for $250.

Option B - sell this thing and pick up a Roush axleback.
Thx for your thoughts!
Thoughts:
1) Before ditching the Borla think about x-Pipe or H-Pipe. But get one that you don't weld in so you can put the resonator back if needed. See how the Borla sounds with X or H pipe.

2) If you don't like Borla with X or H pipe then get the Roush and try it with your X or H still installed. If too loud put the resonator back in with clamps to reattach mid-pipe (or weld if you desire).

I know that CJ Pony Parts said the Roush with X or H Pipe was the loudest he had heard (so far).

One thing I keep trying to tell people is that x-pipes do not create rasp, yet it keeps getting circulated around the internet as fact. Generally speaking, the louder the exhaust the better the chances that it will be raspy. On the S197 5.0, Roush mufflers were still raspy even with everything else stock.

I bet your setup still sounds badass though! :headbang:

Agreed. Rasp is gonna be there just by nature of the exhaust itself. I have personally built many exhaust on many mustangs and have used X and H pipes with no difference in "rasp". I will say the H makes a slightly deeper cold start and idle imho.

I definitely like the character of an h-pipe more than an x-pipe. I've gone back to back on my car with two different setups, one with stock cats and one with headers. With stock cats there was no rasp even with an x-pipe. With my headers there is some rasp even with an h-pipe.

It's a sweet set up but when you hammer it , you get some rasp. I just did a cold start up and will post to YouTube when I get home later this afternoon. Curious to see what you guys think.
