Firstly, I came out of a 2012 gt with the Borla S type axleback and I loved it. Perfect sound in my opinion. Now, on the 2015, went with the axleback again. Obviously this means I left the resonator in place to try and save $300-400 bucks since there are no real HP gains to be had. Well, I'm dissapointed. It does not sound like my 2012. It's louder than the stock, but the tone is just a bit off and it's kind of muffled if you ask me. I am guessing this must be the resonator, but I'm skeptical to chop it out at this point.

Anyone else running the axleback? If so, opinions? I'll try and get a video with a sound clip soon.

Option A - replace the resonator with an x. My shop will weld in a custom x for $250.

Option B - sell this thing and pick up a Roush axleback.

Thx for your thoughts!

I think everybody that has the roush axle backs has been happy with the sound. But a lot of folks do end up taking out the resonator because it takes away most of the volume. If you want louder if say do the xpipe first. If you want a better tone. The roush axle backs are king.

it will not sound like your old car because this is a new engine and new car. get rid of the chunky resonator and do yourself a favor.

They're both the same Coyote engine but the 2015 has a new firing order, thus resulting in a different sound. They're the same engine, but do sound a little different.

This! Just make sure your shop can do a quality x-pipe with SS (preferably 304) or look @ Leathal's resonator delete kits.

Im installing my Borla S Axleback tomorrow but I have the MRT H-Pipe as well. Ive been debating whether to just install the AB to see what that does first before installing H-Pipe but now you have me thinking of just doing it all at once. H-Pipe to me sounds deeper than an X Pipe. I got my H pipe for $250 at CJ Pony Parts.

Thx guys. I'm still debating...but I will change something.

And I did not expect the same sound as my 2012, but I expected something close. I mean it is a 5.0 coyote with a Borla S Type...

Blade- not sure what your looking for as far as sound. Comparing this to my 2012, it's muffled at WOT and on down shifts for sure. On driving it's just not that refined Borla sound that I hear in the videos of the 15s (which all have catbacks according to CJs and Borla...I called both). Cloudy...if that makes sense...or muffled is how I describe it. If I could do it again I would go with the full Catback and then, if I hated it, go for the roush with the resonator.

Im looking for louder than Stock but not obnoxious with that classic Borla Sound. Id like to be somewhat noticeable with normal driving but for me there is a limit to how much noise youre making as Im not trying to be annoying to other drivers.

I do get the cloudy analogy so Im hoping the H Pipe Res delete will be the final ticket.

The Roush system is typically less expensive than any other AB and sounds great, I personally just love the Borla sound for a Mustang. Guess we will find out tomorrow.

I've heard the S-type catback in person and thought it sounded great, so I would suggest getting rid of the resonator first before switching axlebacks. If you're still not happy, definitely give the Roush axlebacks a shot. I'm currently running them with the MRT H-pipe (which was a bitch to install, btw) and it sounds like a beast.

Ive got the MRT H Pipe as well. I thought about just doing the res delete and getting 4.5" tips keeping the stock mufflers but bought the Borla after seeing their company video in 4K. Im just hoping it sounds similar when its installed and the H Pipe doesnt mess with the Borla sound too much.

I doubt the h-pipe will negatively affect it, but what sounds good is very subjective. I was seriously considering going with a Borla Axleback instead and might eventually end up with the ATAK (love the Borla tips). Let us know how the h-pipe install goes, the ends of mine were not expanded enough to allow the stock exhaust piping to slide in, and per the comments on CJ's website I wasn't the only one who experienced this. We struggled with it for quite some time before getting it to work.
