Body panel alignment issues

Well being this is a recurring problem. What do you guys feel is acceptable as far as misaligned panel go in order to take delivery of your car? I know its an expensive car, perfection or bust. But how neat picky can you be before you say forget that and go home empty handed?

Would you say one or two panel that are fixable is acceptable? Three or four would be grounds to walk away? I'm pretty nervous as my order will be here in 20 or so day and scared of being disappointed.

Use your best judgement; trust me when I tell you that anything glaring will really stand out. Also pay close attention to that rear glass dip on the drivers side.

Also depends on the dealers allocation; meaning they may have no choice but to take "acceptable flaws". That does not mean you have to.

If there's any doubt in your mind after you inspect it.. walk away. It's all about what +you+ will be happy with. If there's any issue that you think would bug you so much that you would have to try and get it fixed by the body shop, I would say walk away. Who wants to pay for a brand new car and end up with one that has been taken apart and reassembled outside of the factory?

AND.. whatever you do.. try not to let the fact that you've been waiting so long influence your decision!

I am actually not a guy who runs around with a ruler or a water level. But my car is so twisted - I start wondering if it is really not fallen of a truck, ramp, train etc. because there is too much wrong with it.

My dealer is actually exited because it is the 1st time a engineer will take a look at a car. I make sure that I am beside him when he is checking out my car. Again. If they give me 10% discount I would think about keeping it. But I will measure the corners very well this weekend before I make a decision. Maybe they give me a 2016 and smash the one I have?

IMO there are 3 points everyone who takes delivery should look for, where I think, that it is very difficult to fix the car.

1. Open the hood. Look if both rubber stoppers are at the same level! (Check out my pictures with the water level on the rubber stoppers) This is a "RED light!"
2. Rear window, driver side. Shows that the left rear quarter panel is to low! IMO
3. Trunk lid twisted. (rear left quarter panel low)

If a car has all three of it, walk as fast you can away! :gossip:

I heard from Ford today on my BBB case and they asked where I wanted to bring it for repairs to my panels, trunk, hood, doors, and fender. I'm taking it to Auto Nation Margate, their body shop is very good. I was very pleased with a warranty repair they did on my 06 that had bubbling paint on the hood and peeling paint on the front bumper and they did an amazing job! They removed the bumper, blasted the peeling paint right off and re sprayed it, same with the hood, top and underside, better than the factory paint job. They re sprayed the top of the fender bordering the hood, removed the badging and re coated the entire front end, from in front of the doors forward, with clear coat. and put on new badges. It was impeccable. The CS rep from the Reacquired Vehicle Department said "wow, oh my!" to the list of repairs. She was very nice and helpful, asked if I need a loaner or rental while my car is being repaired. She was calling the collision center manager to arrange for the proper technicians to be available for the repair. The collision center manager already has looked over my car in January and was upset that it wasn't pulled by QC, he didn't seem confident that it would ever be right even with a repair. I'm planning to talk with him before he does the work. I can't believe I had to open a lemon law case to get my car repaired. I'm supposed to hear back on Monday from Ford on when to bring my car in for repairs.

They put me in a for focus last time as a loaner this time I want to say that isn't going to cut it I have to meet clients and need something better, I hated that car. Wonder what they would do

Brought my wife's car in for an oil change this morning to my dealer, looked at the plethora of mustangs in stock and found only one issue with all the cars they had however it does look like the hood is contacting the fender on this one

Honestly, if the hood is aligned on the other side, that part of the fender can probably be pulled out by hand it has some flex to it.

Still unacceptable for a car on the lot, should have been fixed/noticed in PDI.

Wed will be my two week mark since I had them order my rear glass. Dont think it should take that long. Think i'm going to file a complaint against my dealer through the BBB on that day.

anyone had trunk fitment adjusted with good result?

I just noticed that my trunk lid rubs against the adjoining panel when it's almost closed and all the paint has rubbed away from the edge. This is on the driver side near the rear window.

Has anyone had a crooked trunk lid successfully adjusted? My guess is that it's not a simple fix. Most likely, the car itself is crooked and so the trunk just doesn't fit correctly.

I am reluctant to take the car to the dealer because if the car is crooked, chances are those guys can only make things worse, and scratch everything up while they do so.

Also noticed..

• rear glass sits lower on drivers side
• rear bumper seams are off and can see the clips through the gaps
• hood gap is wider on passenger side and only way to latch hood is to drop it from about 10"

And my car was built in February so it's not just the very early cars that have these issues.
