Was thinking of a tune for my 2019 GT. Called American Muscle and was told to be careful because Ford is known to blacklist car for any warranty work if computer has been breached.

I would hate to have my convertible motor go bad and Ford not repair it. That would be big bucks for me.

Anyone have any stories to confirm this.

Hi Dan, you have a lot to learn :like::) Start here......

And the short answer, it really depends on your dealer and if the tune caused the damage. If you can’t afford to pay, I would suggest not playing.

Also I wouldn't shop or get advice from American Muscle. Lethal Performance, Beefcake racing are more knowledgeable and have better pricing. Also customer service is better.

They shouldnt void your warranty for random stuff thats not affected by the tune. Also depends on the dealer.

Been tuned by Lund for almost 3 years. Rock solid. Granted I only have 15k miles.

There are laws in place that prevent dealers from denying warranty work on modified cars, as long as the modifications are not the cause of the part failure.

IE; tuning your car and you have a window motor go bad. The two are totally unrelated.

I can imagine if you blow the engine and it’s tuned, the dealer could enter the vehicle info in a database and flag as warranty denied due to tune which would prevent you going from dealer to dealer trying to get it replaced.

They can't void your entire warranty.. only a certain portion. For example, they can deny replacing your engine if it pops and they found out the car was tuned. However, they can't deny warranty on your convertible top, paint, interior, body, etc. just because you tuned the car. Unfortunately, this is a risk we all take when modding our cars within the warranty period.

As well, some dealers are more mod friendly than others... I've found the Roush/SVT dealers are in this camp, at least in my experience.

+1, bought my Lund tune from Terry @ Beefcake. OP I hope you weren't trying to buy a BAMA tune from AM.

The dealer I bought my car from was an authorized Roush dealer, the service advisor was telling me they had recently done a T56 Magnum conversion for a customer with a 13 or 14 GT. Surprised me to hear that.

That IS surprising.. I figured they would only install authorized Roush/Ford parts.

That was kind of my reply, the service manager said they were willing to install aftermarket parts for customers and have plenty of times. Shifters, catbacks, whatever. They're also an authorized Quigley dealer.

Still, the service advisor I always had to talk to was cool, but the techs that worked on my car pissed me off more than once including losing things (and not telling me), breaking things (and not telling me) as well as damaging things (and not telling me). I had to go back and bitch at them to get these issues resolved. I still have a dashboard rattle from the a/c evap core job they did. I've since moved out of the area and have not returned, found a new local dealer that is 30% less shit.

Great place to start is by chatting with the Ford dealer you plan to service the car. Then you will know more what risks are involved.

As stated doesn't void warranty but they can deny a warranty claim if the tune was the cause of the failure. Obviously if your vert top goes, they would not deny a claim due to a tune nor would they even be looking for it.

I think you may be onto something, my dealer has a custom, and performance department and they never bat an eye at my vehicle.

How desperate are you for your car to be 0.1 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile? That's about what a tune is worth - not very significant gains. IMO not worth it if you're concerned (as you should be on a new car) about the warranty. You can get nearly the same gains by putting in a $50 drop-in K&N air filter that won't void any warranty.

That said, I doubt Ford could deny you a claim on anything that would be unrelated to the tune.

I’ve always looked at modding. As a if you can’t take the heat. Stay out of the kitchen kinda thing. I keep money tucked away for a new motor or transmission. So if your in a financial place. That replacing an engine would be back breaking. Don’t tune. Tunes are 99.9% problem free. Reputable tuners have this shit down. Do you wanna play the odds? Their in your favor.
