In Canada we don't have 93, we have either 94 or 91. Will this be an issue running a 93 tune?
No. You can use the 93 octane tune for the 94 fuel. You can always run higher octane than your tune file base octane but never the other way around.

I want to win the lottery but I'm too cheap to buy a ticket. What do you recommend?

$5 isn't going to break your wallet.
Quit being cheap and use 91. Your engine will be thankful down the road.

Username is buymycar!? Is cheap and buys a gt. Wants tune for 87 octane!? Are you new to the tuning world? Cant spend the extra 5 bucks for premium but can spend money on tuner and tune? Hmmmmm......
Great tuner's can't accommodate different fuels like the stock tune can? Why not, are they dumber than the Ford guys.

90% of the time I don't need anywhere near the full performance of the car. So I save 15% using regular gas and give up 10hp. When I take it to the track, I put the good studf in (kinda like changing between race and street tires).

I agree with the OP, I want a tuner/tune that will work with 87.
Otherwise might as well only tune for E85, 100, or 107, as anything less gives you reduced performance .

Let me get this straight. You can afford hundreds of dollars for performance parts but putting something higher than 87 is going to break the bank?

I want the option of getting a tune that is 87 friendly and have the option of using higher octane gas when I want more performance. Unless you are racing, I don't see the point of having a high octane only tune when you will never use it. I want the option of using higher octane with the tune only when I want to. And use normal 87 for my daily driving.

As a tuner, I can setup the tune to run 87 octane and allow the car to add timing based on higher octane fuel being added. Any tuner should be able to do the same... So you get an 87 octane tune that when you run 91 or 93, the car will add timing on it's own.

The stock tune already does this. It will ramp up timing and make more power when you put 93 in the tank. The stock tune has adaptive logic built into it.

The stock tune already makes great power. The only way an aftermarket tune will benefit you is if you only use a higher octane. The tune can only do with what fuel you have to work with. Even guys running 91 or 93 tunes have experienced pinging and have needed to get tune revisions.

To increase timing you need a higher octane to eliminate engine pinging /detonation. You don't want your motor to go boom. There's no reason for you to use anything but the stock tune unless you're running 91,93 or better al the time.

There may not be a large increase in peak power from an 87 octane fuel, but one factor your not taking into account are the torque limiters. Removing those will also increase mid-range torque, even on 87. But I do agree with what your saying, getting a tune is to increase power. If you are only running 87 octane, best to run the stock tune and save the money. There is only minimal gains with 87 octane on a stock tune.

I would recommend just running the 91 octane if you have it easily available. Well worth it for the performance and to help keep your car running strong!

It doesn't break the bank, it's just dumb spending money to not go faster. Easy enough to switch fuel when it matters (I try to switch a day or two before, so the car has time to relearn to take advantage of the extra octane) I also don't run R compounds on the street, it's just a waste of money.

Do you have a tune? Do you use E85 or 100 octane every day? If not, you are giving up more performace than me using 87 rather than 91.

It's not like like I bought an EB instead of a GT to save gas.

P.S. I am also waiting on the tuners to figure out how to adjust for gear ratio changes, without a seperate plug in device like Ford can do with their power pack tuners.

So get a 93 tune and flash it when you fill up. Problem solved.
