To be fair, the couple dollars you save won't be noticeable each time you fill up. It's only going to be a couple bucks each time.

Unless, you calculate the savings each time and put all that money somewhere for the whole year....but at the end of the year, you're not going to feel like you saved an extra $400 and think you're going to buy a nice inexpensive mod.

not hating or saying you shouldn't use 87...just saying you won't notice that money you're saving in your everyday life.

If you had a prius, then you bet you'd notice those savings add up:thumbsup:
Well no but $400 is $400. If it was $50 it wouldn't be a big deal.

That's only if you fill up once a week. Imagine the people who fill up twice a week (or more) to get to work. That's getting close to $1,000 for the year!

If I had a GT I'd put 87 because the difference is negligible but I run 91 on my EB for obvious reasons

It's the principle of saving wherever you can and being a smart consumer.

:lol:LOL this is a funny thread. I bet half the people worried about saving a few bucks on gas are buying 5 dollar star bucks coffee. Or smoking 2 packs a day.

exactly

I have put 91 octane in my 07 maxima since it had 5 miles on the odomoter. Now it's at 120k. I will do the same to my mustang.

Just filled up with some shell 93 for $31.72. 93 was $2.14/gallon and 87 was $1.69/gallon.

87 octane will be just fine. If the trade off and savings are worth it for you then you should fill up with that.

Counter to what some think, the octane you fill up with doesn't turn your car into a Prius or obviate your love for fun cars.

I use 87 octane exclusively...87 octane is $0.70 less per gallon vs. 93 octane, and my butt dyno cannot tell the difference.

Besides, my Mustang is extremely traction limited with this cold new England weather with 87 octane gas when I floor it. I spin tires hard in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

So I should want to just throw away $400 a year just because?

If you're handing out hundreds by all means dictate what gas we put in our cars to save some money.

$400/year filling up once per week (or more as some people do a lot more driving) adds up to some nice mods. $400 is a no-tune CAI which can put back on 15-20hp alone.

A horsepower argument is ridiculous in a daily driver to begin with, even a 10% loss is MORE than enough hp; more than most cars on the road still. If you want the performance push to do some spirited driving or track pop in 93. Does 435 vs 392 really matter to go to the grocery store or post office?
To be fair the performance decrease and worsen in gas millage the difference will be a lot less than $400.
Like I said, dollar per mile is more important than dollar per gallon. I bet the difference is much smaller than you think it is.

73 posts on the topic so far

for commuting, just run 87. That's one of the good things about the Mustang. Page 125 of the Owner's Manual has 87 in huge font.

Premium fuel for severe duty, such as trailer tow

Theoretically commuting is not "severe duty", unless you :headbonk:
