What's the best radar detector on the market right now? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, as these things are not cheap.

Look up vortex radar on youtube and watch his videos. He goes over the different ones that are the best right now. No one single radar detector does it all with the highest performance. There is trade offs on all of them.

With that being said I have the Escort Redline because of its RDD blocking and high performance. With this and waze running it is very rare that I do not know where there is a cop running radar before I get there.

There is no best. There's two main companies with the radars you should be interested in : Beltronics/Escort and Valentine.

Valentine has a different philosophy, and they prefer to update and uprade the existing hardware and iterate on that. They also don't really do any sort of GPS lockouts. If you have an android phone, there's a companion app to go with it to increase the functionality.

Escort and Beltronics (essentially the same company) like to iterate by making small changes and forcing you to buy a new unit all the time. Their smartphone companion stuff is gimmicky and useless. The Max detectors from escort are their plug and play units. Meaning that they don't require a lot of fiddling and knowledge to use them. They work very well, but their range isn't as great as say the 9500ix.

They're expensive. Don't expect to pay less than $400 for a good radar detector (unless you get it refurbished/used). The cheapo ones are generally junk and aren't worth the money. There's plenty of youtube reviews with testing that you should seek out and make your own informed decision.

IMO, I'd save your time and go ALP with net radar. Laser AND radar protection.
But definitely check out Vortex site. That dude is the radar detector Yoda.

Considering an Escort was $400 back in the '80's they sound like a deal now. I don't have one since most jurisdictions use laser. At least that's what my BIL the cop told me. Waze is free and works pretty good unless you are out in the boonies.
