I will be removing the wheels for about 7-10 days while they get powdercoated a proper shade of black. Where is the best place to put the 2 rear jack stands. I do have jacking rails. I imagine it will be ok putting the 2 rear ones at the back of the jacking rails, but the rails stop quite a long distance in front of the rear assembly....would like to put them on a point more rearward....is it ok to put stands under the rear suspension or rear diff? Thanks in advance...

Your car will be balanced and stable using the jacking rails and 4 jack stands. If it makes you nervous, then put the car on the jacking rails and keep your jack under one of the rear support points. You should not have any problems with the rails alone. DO NOT use the differential as a jacking or support point.

I like to disassemble things.
So you have the Steeda rails, yes?

Your owners manual shows the proper jack/stand locations at the pinch rail.

I think there is a general misunderstanding on how to use the jacking point. I have seen reference made to put the load on the flange. This is not what the flange is for, even though it might support the weight.

The four hard points are clearly marked if you look. The scissor jack designed for these (Mustang generic, not special) cars has a load pad the locates on the flange but supports all the weight on the reenforced floor pan inboard of the flange / flange notch. See and note the attached photo

Shouldn't those guys be working? :D

Seriously, I just installed a set of your jack rails today and they are very well made and installed effortlessly.

One question though, Why all the replacement bolts? On my install, I only needed one bolt that was not installed on the body.

I hope your camber plates install with little effort as well... :ninja:

Mine came from the factory with 4 bolts on each side.

so the jack stands are NOT meant to go where the pinch welds are? at least to suspend the car up for a while? thanks.

Correct. The jack or the stands are meant to go under that Steeda rail and not the pinch welds.

You need to be careful positioning the jack stands, as most if not all are not flat on top. Position them so as not to straddle the Steeda rail.

IMHO, I would place the rear stands a little further back than shown in the Steeda photo That will distribute the loads more evenly.

tj@steeda is this true? It looks in the pics that are posted that the jack stands are straddling the steeda rail

I agree. Unfortunately, the Steeda rails pretty much terminate where the aft jackstand is so you can't spread the load out (if you only want stands under the rail).

Agreed, that's why some of us went with the BMR jack rails....

Do the BMR ones extend further?

I see your point. From a engineers stand point I think its better to have the flat jack stand pads directly on the rail. On the other hand, the saddle top of the jack stand may serve to ensure the stand does not slip. The down side of that is the load reaction of the raild is concentrated and not distributed.

The BMR rail does appear to have thicker tubing, so it might not care if the load is concentrated.
