Hello-

Does anyone have any feedback or detailing carts/rolling seats?

I'm about to take delivery and I know when I did the initial iron, clay, clean, polish, ceramic coat and all the sub steps of my Civic Type R it was 3 full days and my 53 year old back and arms were not pleased with my 1970s 6" off the ground skateboard (Fibreflex) chair!

I was sorta eyeing this one https://a.co/d/5n0hnO0 I do have other mods to buy, so I'd like to keep it under $125 or so, but if the Michelin of detailer seats exists, let 'er rip.

Anyone who feels strongly about the subject please chime in...especially someone as experienced as, a...I dunno @DFB5.0

Cool! Thanks for the HF link!
With a coupon, that could be pretty cheap.

Do you think it is high enough?

For me, the height is just about perfect. My knees aren't what the used to be, and I came to really hate cleaning wheels and lower body panels. This seat has made it a pleasure again.

Just found out HF recently stopped their 20% off one item coupons.

Inflation is officially, really, real folks! What is this world coming to?

A while back, HF switched to a model where you have to have one of their credit cards to get the "good" coupons. They still have sales from time to time, though. They had this seat on sale for $59.99 last week.

This is a subject I'm passionate about because I once despised cleaning wheels. It wasn't until I discovered the joys of cleaning wheels seated that I began to enjoy this task! I spend my working life as a gardener crouched down a lot, so my knees tend to get strained a fair bit. Sitting down to clean wheels I find very cathartic.

I started using one of those pneumatic seats sold through discount hardware stores all around the world.

As you can guess, these are built to a price, so cheap and nasty wheels really let it down. Being tall, I also found it too high, even on the lowest setting.

It's replacement is probably the most common of detailing seats.

These are sold all over the world under different names including Adam's, Griots, Maxshine and Economax. Picking which one will come down to cost and availability, although the Griots one does come with a padded seat if that matters.

While there are better garage stools/seats/creepers, I think the above ones are best suited to detailing. The Vyper Chair is very well regarded, but I think it's just too bulky for detailing, and in most cases, sits you too high for comfortable wheel cleaning. If you look at the design of the above seats, they dip down in the middle allowing you to sit lower.

The storage compartments allow for convenient placing of various tools that get used as I move around the car, including my pressure washer nozzles and wheel guides to prevent hose snagging. And yes, you really do need to have those things!

There is a high level of joy I get from sitting down and cleaning my wheels. It's generally at the end of the week, after all the loose ends have been dealt with and I have nowhere else to be but sitting on that seat. Almost like a massive sigh of relief.

D: I would wager that many of the folks reading this thread will be able to relate to that lethargic feeling while doing something you truly enjoy. I know I certainly can.

BUT, those wheel hose guides are over the top, amigo. <smiling widely> JK of course. I'm wondering if tighter quarters contribute to the need for them? I say that because I rarely get a snag but I have the space to sling the hose out fully, and then do one end, top half, and full side with plenty of excess hose to spare. Drag to the other side and repeat.

I believe that my obsessiveness would cause me to spend more time positioning the guides than it would on one or two hose snags. <grinning>

Back to the wheel stool...

I have an old mechanics "chair" with crappy casters that are slowly disintegrating due to the exposed aggregate of the driveway. Therefive, I'm looking hard at your choice of stools. :-) It would be handier to have that other nozzle in a pocket so it stays put. I currently put it on the diamond plate between the buckets and it occasionally vibrates off.

Boy I am glad I asked first! I would have gone with something that was probably too high. Thank you for the detailed response DFB. It looks like the HF option is the same a Griots/Adama and also comes with the padded seat.

I have plenty of room..........

As you know, I move from wheel to wheel while still seated, scooting along with the bucket in one hand and the pressure washer gun in the other, the hose dragging along with me. Having the guides on both back wheels makes it possible to keep moving without having to get up and un-snag a hose, they just guide it through. And having the guides in the drawer makes them quick and convenient to just grab and go. My process has evolved to this over many years.

With your exposed aggregate driveway, I'm wondering if the Vyper chairs with their larger wheels could work for you?

OK...ten four good buddy...I pick up the chair when switching sides and that's when I move the hose. My old chair doesn't scoot too well on the bumpy surface especially while tryiing to drag the buckets and gun with me. Gotcha, dude. :-)

This is one of my favorite things in my garage -The Vyper chairs are very expensive, but unquestionably the best shop chair you can buy.

I've had a few of the cheap pneumatic chairs - the wheels break, you catch an edge or a rock and flip over, everything vibrates out of the tray when you roll them, etc. They get the job done for the price for sure.

I picked up a steel max over a year ago when prices were SIGNIFICANTLY lower. The great thing about it being the base height goes from 15-24". So I have an extremely comfortable low stool that is great for detailing wheels which is easily converted to a counter height chair with a back rest(If I need lower I sit on a creeper). This thing is more comfortable than anything you've eaten dinner sitting in and it rolls ridiculously well...like almost too good. Like you will question if your garage floor has been converted to an air hockey table. It would make light work of your concrete KB and it rolls and swivels so well it does not feel bulky at all DFB

So it's a really expensive chair - but it's like Sun Joe vs Kranzle or one of those drill attachment foam pads vs a Rupes. I also get more use out of it than my pressure washer or my polisher - but I cant seem to polish or pressure wash without it

https://www.vyperindustrial.com/ - they run $100 off specials pretty frequently

DFB maybe its time one of us influence one of your purchases ;)

Not that I would ever disagree with DFB, 😄 but, the current Griots seat has been greatly improved. It now is a two seater. Just waiting to get a few extra bucks saved to get one.
