Detailing brushes, an important tools to have for both interior and exterior cleaning.

Firstly, lug nut brushes. We all like clean nuts! (Sorry, I just felt compelled to make that crude joke.) These two are ideal for wheels, not too big and not too small. At this point I would recommend avoiding wooden handled brushes as the moisture inherent in the job at hand degrades the handle. As you can see in the pic below, this one has not worn well. The yellow version is from Chemical Guys (NLA), I would say this is one of the brushes I use the most. I have also been using a RaceGlaze XL brush for lugs too. It's a little big for this job but is in fact more efficient if you prefer to clean your wheels with a brush.

Next are what I call my workhorse brushes. These boars hair brushes are great for a variety of tasks including wheel cleaning, engine bays, exterior cleaning and interior detailing on harder surfaces. They can even be used to apply tyre dressing. Again, plastic handles my preference for durability. These sort of brushes are sold under multiple brands and suppliers. I also like the look of the Work Stuff and Detail Factory brands of brushes.

It's also important to have some softer brushes for delicate interior and exterior surfaces. These Detail Factory brushes are made with ultra-soft synthetic bristles and are available in short or long handles. I use these to clean air vents, scratch prone glossy interior surfaces, exterior grills and badges.

Upholstery brushes are helpful additions, one for carpet and cloth, and one for leather trim. Use one like the red version for loosening stains or agitating carpet prior to vacuuming. The leather brush is soft enough to prevent damage but helpful for increasing the effectiveness of a leather cleaner.

And if that wasn't enough, these Vikan brushes are designed for reaching into the depths of engine bays.

The websites I have linked are to cater for the USA members, most of the above can be sourced locally to you.

Now after all that, there is still wheel, tyre and wheel arch brushes to consider. That is another deep, deep hole in which deserves another post for another time. :like:

Yes indeed, VERY few posters can compete with "D Downunder." <smiling> Attention to detail to the max and someone with whom I can most definitely relate.

D: Decided to give a couple sets of the Work Stuff brushes and, a short and long soft version from TRC a shot. These finally look like they will be keepers, thanks again for the links.

One question...

Your choice of upholstery cleaners for vinyl and leather?

Nice choice of brushes, exactly what I would have chosen! :like:

The leather cleaning product I grab the most is Bowden's Leather Love, which I don't think is sold outside of Australia/NZ. This stuff is designed specifically for modern automotive leather and vinyl. It cleans and protects. I use this on detail jobs where time is money.

At this point I would also highly recommenced NV Cleanse and Nourish, available in the USA.
https://nvcarcareusa.com/collections/interior-series/products/nv-cleanse-leather-cleaner
https://nvcarcareusa.com/collections/interior-series/products/nv-nourish-leather-quick-detailer

Don't let the plain packaging deceive you, these are truly great products which are very easy to use. Both are again designed for automotive leather/vinyl trims. Use Cleanse and a brush or cloth to clean the leather. Then follow with Nourish to protect in a simple spray and wipe process. Unlike leather creams, this stuff wont leave your perforated leather filled with dried product. I will also mention cleaning leather, depending on the color, may only needs to be done once or twice a year. Something like Nourish I use every couple of months.
(Oh, and if you do decide to give these NV products a try, do me favor and get a bottle of Onyx tire dressing as well, you can thank me later. :like:)

With a very light colored leather to care for, cleaning is a regular thing to do -

I'm also going to recommend Koch Chemie Pol Star, which can be used to clean leather, vinyl, fabric or carpet. For leather, you would then follow with Koch Chemie Leather Star.

Also have a look into ColorLock leather products. While I have not used them, they are highly regarded.

https://www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/colourlock

I also want to say that in my opinion, shiny leather is dirty leather. A lot of leather products leave a glossy, shiny appearance. I have a few of these offenders in my cabinet, including a gallon of a Meguiar's leather conditioner that left me very disappointed to have wasted so much money on. Clean, fresh leather should feel soft and have a matte appearance, like this -
