I am the new owner of a 2016 GT Convertible on great condition. Premium edition but stock exhaust. I want a little more sound but no drone on the highway. I have been studying but talk about confusing! Looks like just replacing the “suitcase”with any or H pipe could make a nice change? Prefer not to cut and do an axle back, so I can return to stock if I sell or don’t like it. Thanks for allowing me on this forum.

My favorite is a full Borla Cat Back. I went S type and it is amazing. Nice tone, not too loud unless you really give it the beans. No drone at cruise. And easily reversible, I still have my complete factory cat back in storage if I ever desire to go completely back to stock.. That said an H pipe or X pipe will make a nice change, but does require cutting the factory resonator out to install..

With the non active exhaust, a resonator delete doesn’t make a huge difference, not to mention it’s a cut and clamp install as well.

I had a AWE Touring setup on my old non-active GT and it was perfect. Loud when you wanted it, it docile cruising.

AWE Touring is a great option for the 15-17 cars if you want a little more volume but not a ton (I’d say it’s Stock+ or Stock++ in terms of volume). One of the best sounding exhausts out there in my mind. If you want a little more volume than that, Borla S type is a great option. It’s my favorite for these cars (15-17 and 18-23). Both Borla and AWE build quality is outstanding and neither will drone.

If cost is a concern, I can recommend the MBRP cat-back. It's what I have on my 2015. The quality is excellent and price is right. However, it is kind of loud.

Not a very good idea on the Gen2 S550 2015-17. This will result in a very tinny sound.
Gen3 2018+ dual tipped mufflers is a different story and sounds better with a H or X mid pipe.

Borla atak drivers side muffler, corsa extreme on the right, magnaflow tru x in the middle and ford Fiesta cats= best exhaust ever.
And what do you do with the other halves of those axle backs?? Seems like a waste of money to me.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Does anyone have experience with the X-Force Varex Cat back which has baffles operated by a key fob? Seems like a good idea, similar to the Active Exhaust offered by Ford.

Steeda H-pipe was perfect for me. No drone with a little bit more throttle bark.

I agree with skinnyB. Before I added headers the S type catback sounded really good for just a catback. Everything he said was spot on.

Definitely my favorite. The Gen 2 cars are a little different but the S type is still spot on with those cars. Mine is an active Gen 3 car and I couldn't be happier. I plan to do headers too eventually and really look forward to it :)

I have had several exhausts on my 2017. Originally went with the Corsa Extreme cat-back. That sounded like dog sh*t. But considering the cost I dealt with it for a year.

Then I went with a magnaflow cat back. That sounded good, but definitely not the same quality as the Corsa. My biggest complaint with the Magnaflow is that no matter where I moved it, the exhaust would hit the sway bar. It was especially noticeable on startup on moving at low speeds. It had enough vibration to just keep ringing it against the bar. Again dealt with it for a while.

Then I thought, well why not try the Corsa Touring axle back and put it with the Corsa X-pipe that I still had in the rafter. PERFECT combo. Sounds amazing under throttle and you would barely know that it had exhaust idling at the stop light.

If you are interested I have an extreme axle back in the box, would sell it for a hell of a deal. Paired with the resonator intact, this might actually be pretty comparable to what I have now. If I still had the resonator I would even have tried it for comparison.

So you basically have the Corsa Sport catback setup which I really like in the 2015-2017 cars. Has a good tone to it and won’t make your ears bleed. Corsa has a little bit of a different sound than most so it’s not for everyone. The Extreme is too raspy for me but there are others that really like it.

that is exactly what it is. I could not remember their middle title. It is a sport exhaust now. And the extremely was more than just raspy, it was just noise blast, and a horrible noise at that. Open headers probably would sound better than the extreme.
