Fellas, don't make this so hard. $1.04 for a two-pack at your local Lowes Home Improvement store

The hole needs a 7mm
1/4 inch (6.3 mm) is close enough. They expand anyway.

Besides, imo, what causes these fasteners to break over time, is that the legs expand anyway, and if you're not careful enough when reinserting them, it causes the legs to break and thus be loose.

A slightly sloppy fit is actually better imo.

Like the factory ones better. Easier to remove with just your fingers.

Plus they don't even list the nutritional information for the ones at Lowes:

If you are working on stang regularly you are probally disconecting the battery often. Is it just me or do the screw fasteners that secure the cover suck? They usually fall out and fall into the abiss of the engine compartment. Has someone come up for a fix for this? I thought I would be lazy and see if someone already had a good fix.
.
The wheel well plastic rivots suck too..............

Have to remove the battery cover every time I go through tech so they can test the security of the battery mount. Had mine off an on so many times that the pins are pretty much there for looks. Would be nice to find a fastener that doesn't heat soak (burn my fingers), is a bit more robust and can be removed without tools.

good thread here. when installing some hood struts this Fall I noticed the dealer cheated me out of all these fasteners. the cover seems to sit and fit snug without them. imagine they had to charge the battery a few times since they had the car in their inventory for a while. someone lost them or didnt care to put them back.
