My experience with the oem Ford batteries over the years has been typically they’re 3-4 years on a gas engine here. On my deisels its like clock work at about 3 years. Thats them needing to be replaced. On my shelbys with the tenders it seems to have really extended that life. Me personally I just don’t see a downside to spending the 50$ on a tender. I’ve never had much luck with longevity on batteries that sit dormant. My equipment trailers(dumps and flatdecks) the deep cycles(interstates) last a few years. But to be fair they’re not taken care of greatly(sporadic use), and the box’s they sit in have massive tempertature swings.
Oh geez ... I forgot to mention disconnect the battery then hook up the tender 😐

I have an Optima RedTop in my truck that's just eevvveerrrrrr soo slightly finally starting to show some signs that she may be on the way out in the distant future. Just that tiny little big of lag when cranking here on these cold days. Not enough for me to take a jump starter with me everywhere I go, but just enough for an eyebrow raise at the moment. It's not a daily driver anymore, so it gets plugged into a tender as soon as she's parked, wether it's going to be a week or a month.

Oh, and oh yeah...best guess, this battery is somewhere north of 15 years old! Fact.

Since someone asked, the exact setup many suggested on this forum…positive in the fuse box, neg grounded to body, all zip tied up. Ditched my old tender and got a CTEK unit and it’s incredibly high quality. Just get the one on Amazon, no need to pay double for it to say Ford Performance on it! Working perfectly.
