Base vs Premium?

FWIW, here is a picture of my Ecoboost Premium with PP on its winter tire & wheels.

There are two types of winter tires studless and studdable. The studdable tires whether you install studs have a more agressive tread that is more suited for deep snow but give up dry road performance. I have Dunlap Winter Maxx on the Mustang which are a studless design. Even so they worked very well in the fore mentioned Boston winter with snow mode.

I thought I read somewhere in this forum that the GT PP setup requires a 19" rim to clear those calipers. Last time I looked up a set of 19" Conti DWS that would fit, they ran $270 ea. so be sure to check as the added expense weighed into my decision as well.

Factory take off's are relatively inexpensive, but the stock all season's probably won't be enough for the average Canadian winter.

I'd get a base. Never been a fan of leather, or a bunch of gizmos I don't really need.

Ditto. Pony projection lamps? Not my thing.

As far as winter tires go, they're virtually a necessity in Ontario. Certainly so with a big powerful RWD Mustang.

No way I'd get the base. Get the Premium car and be happy. When summer rolls back around you'll love the PP.

Dunno about driving a high torque RWD car in that kind of winter conditions. Luck with that.

Winter tires are for traction on slippery wintery roads..... can't use the full power of any of the engines. This is why the "Snow/Wet Mode" with the premium is so very useful.....smoothes out your driving inputs (especially throttle response, braking, etc.) to keep from inadvertiently breaking traction and sliding sideways. (The opposite happens with "Sport+" or "Track" modes...much crisper throttle response, etc.)

Some 18 inch wheels fit. My winter setup is using 18 inchers.

How is that relevant to the base vs premium argument? Also, you can get premium without nav (and nav won't be obsolete in 2 years).

I actually had a base 16 Guard GT PP on order. After riding in a buds premium car I changed my mind. My car is a nice day car only and will probably only see a couple thousand miles a year and the premium still appealed way more to me.

My premium with adaptive cruise control is spoiling my silly. Get it if you can afford it. Or even if you can't:-)

I went with base PP because I don't like touch screens in cars and don't care about heated or cool seats. I wanted 3.73s and didn't want to pay 45k for a mustang getting the PP and the premium.

Thanks guys. Either way I go, winter tires are a must. I have used Winter dedicated for a few years and the difference is night and day. Have never had the summer wheels before or big brakes like Brembos so I'm really, really pining for the sporty add ons. To add your own sway bars, chassis stiffening goodies, big brake kits, it's going to cost more than what Ford charges for the PP. Easily.

On one hand, this is a powerful car and I don't want to end up in a ditch or worse, on another if I get the non-PP, I will regret it for sure because I have always wanted the cool looking Brembo callipers and doing them aftermarket is just so expensive. $2000 for 6 piston brakes. No way!

I'm going to see if I can score a PP Premium.

Why don't you order the exact car you want. The 16's are in production now. Trying to retrofit things like heated Mears on a car that was never intended to have them will cost you more in the long run.

There is no place in North America that new roads are being built so fast that a nav system would be obsolete in 2 years, even Google wouldn't keep up if it was.

I have a 7 year old TomTom I use when I travel for work. I have been all over the US and have never not been able to find where I was going.

Plus with the Ford system the map data is on an SD card which Ford updates annually and can be bought for less than $100 if you shop around.

The built in system is far superior to cell phone and most standalones

I started off thinking base or base/PP. Ended up Premium w/o PP and w/ AT. No regrets. Handling is sharp, ride is great, I LOVE the Premium/Premier interior. Can always add Steeda suspension bits, and I won't ever miss the Brembos for what I do. (Remember the base brakes came standard on 2011 GT500s, they are not exactly cast iron teacups.)

Not many bad choices, but one of them will be best for you.
