I originally was going with the base model - and price was the whole reason. My wife then told me "If you are going to have a midlife crisis, just do it right" so, i went with a 50th appearance premium. :)

To comment on the base model - the car, in and of itself, is a car to be driven. it is to get people to turn their heads. base or premium does not change that.

I like the extras that come with the premium, some novelty may or may not wear off on me, novelty tends to stick around longer with me, for some reason...

You will most likely be just as happy with a base model, as there are plenty of buttons to push and play with, plus, you have just as much HP as a premium performance package LE model does. :)

So, can we confirm if or not the base GT is lacking in power/throttle due to not having different driving modes? Does it FEEL any different?

I wenr with the base GT and Im very happy. I could of got the premium GT. Hell I could of got a LE (daily driver so decided against the LE) wanted as light as possible for the track and a platform to bild on. The base gt is still very loaded and comes with plenty of goodies. So for me the base gt works great. Hell I look at it like, Would I like to spind that 4000 on lethal or a supercharger like I'm doing :)

I purchased a base GT. I almost purchased a premium GT from the same dealer, but I could not justify the extra $4k. The weird thing is I thought I would miss having leather as my previous vehicle was a 2006 GT premium. Instead, I'm missing the 'My Color' instrument cluster that I hardly ever used before. Other than that I have zero regrets.

I first drove a V6. When I saw that smaller console, I thought it was just for the V6 because & all other models came with the MFT . I even ordered the base EB fastback. Later, when I visited another dealer & test drove the EB Premium, I fell in love with the interior & other features. I did my research and was confused whether I should go with the EB or EB Premium. The cost difference for me was somewhere around $3k. The main points in consideration were -

  1. I would be using the car more as a comfort daily drive car rather than a performance car.( A lot of the premium features are comfort features)
  2. I liked the drive modes. It changes the feel of the drive.
  3. Leather seats with heating/cooling.
  4. Even though I heard about the issues of MFT, I prefer it to the small screen on the base model. Bigger screen for the reverse camera is always better. Also, it looks modern.
  5. I felt the pony projection lights are just a fancy thing. Didn't really matter to me.
  6. Last but not the least, I thought to myself-This is my first car. Also, I won't be changing the car for another 4-5 years at least. Why miss out on the features for $3k which is less than my monthly salary.
So, I finally went ahead & booked the EB Premium. With X-plan, my car comes around $30K without taxes & fees.

No s550 yet :(
Im not an owner yet but will be soon hopefully.

Im getting a base because of the following:
1. Price - A base car with Auto, Recaros and X plan is around what $34-35K?
2. Weight - I do race my Mustangs in the 1/4 and for me I count my lbs.
3. A base 15 has ALOT more amenities than my Premium 05 Im coming from.
4. I dont need different driving modes. When not 1/4ing it will be a cruiser for me and the girlfriend. I just want it to be fast all the time.
5. I love the gimmicky Pony Projection lights and the aftermarket has a kit that looks better for around $100.
6. All money saved from not going premium will be put towards the options that I really want. Blower, suspension and wheels + tires, the things that I really need in this Mustang to make it perfect for me.
7. Since I am going with Recaros I would be losing the heated/cooled seats anyway.

This was essentially my story. I was vacillating between and EB PP Premium and a Base GT, and told her what I liked about each of those. She convinced me to do like Deion Sanders and get BOTH. So I got a Premium GT and I love it. It'll take months for me to learn all about MFT, but it works well right off the bat. The Redline seats are awesome and this is probably the nicest car I will ever buy in my life. Just once, I did it all.

I went with the base gt because to me all the electronics and gadgets are simply fluff that add weight and makes me slower. I did add the pp. More importantly my out the door price (including tax, tag and registration) was $35,500.

All personal preference, really...

If you can afford to go premium, then do it.

I was about to bite the bullet on a 2014 base GT, until I sat in the 2015 GT. To me the 2015 GT feels like a premium GT compared to last generation. There are a few things I would have wanted like Nav, or HD/sirus radio, but not worth the 4k up charge just to get the option like others are saying.

Zombie here on the board
Zombie is selling Pony projectors? I thought he is selling some colored foil?

You can get the Pony lights on Ebay. I have still a pair in my drawer. Bought it for my 2005 but never installed them. I paid $25 for them.

Back to the topic.
I was looking for the V6 with leather. As everyone now knows, not available with the V6. So I checked the EB and had to go with the premium. Living in Edmonton, heated seats are a must for me. Do I need all the gadgets. No! But it is my last new car I think and so I go "Premium" including PP.

He is offering a decal that covers the lamps to change the color. I have some I need to install.
