I too have a base GT. The cloth seats are much easier to maintain than the leather (based on owning Mustangs over the last 18 years). If you have an Android phone text messaging is possible.... The system will notify you of a new text on the radio screen. Press the voice button and and say' Read text message'. Samantha (Fords Sync voice) will speak the message to you. You can say 'Reply to message' and on the radio screen four canned responses will appear. You can say 'Next page' and four more will appear (up to 15 or so are available). Say the line number and respond 'Yes' when she asks to send the message. (The person receiving the message will see 'Sent from my Ford' attached to the end of the response). This rarely works with an IPhone.

It's because the base model guys are usually broke kids who just want the v8 or old guys who say "I don't want the bells and whistles and doo-hickeys'
Some people also don't want the leather.

I wanted leather, and wanted voice activated nav, so my choice was pretty easy.

My plan is to buy a 16 GT w/ PP in or after June.

However, I've done research on multiple forums simultaneously and have come to the conclusion that I actually prefer the base over the premium. Now what comes next isn't meant to piss on anyone's preference for the premium...just explaining my preference for the base.

For me, I feel the same...I'd rather have the cloth. But with the touch screen....no thanks for several reasons. Glare, outdated software in the future, repairs possibly needed, can't feel around and have to be parked, pulled over, or look away from the road to use it. Climate control is nice but the heated/cooled seats...just don't want/need them. About the only thing that would be nice is the toggles and modes pre-set. But from reading, although it's highly debated, it seems you can almost, if not exactly, simulate the modes with the steering/traction buttons on the base. Plus I can order and install aftermarket toggles from another forum member. Not interested in all the lighting/pony projection jazz. Lastly, navigation...I've already got a Garmin and a cell phone that won't charge me (an initial) fee to find a road map and guide me somewhere...so I'm good there. Again, the premium just isn't for me.

I want a super fun ride that is quick and fast.... I'm confident the Base GT w/PP will surpass that expectation!

I may be wrong but I think you can only adjust the epas system ie. steering, on the base model the drive modes are only on the premium model

You are correct about the modes. As a whole with one button/toggle flip...the premium has them. However, in sifting through different threads it seems that adjusting traction, steering, and possibly something else (that I'm forgetting)....the premium modes can be simulated.

I completely agree with Emt1581. I was intending to order a premiun, but I really don't want leather. Or heated/cooled seats (got 'em, have never used 'em), or pony lights on the ground. If we could order a-la-cart, I'd take the dual zone climate (I'm always cold, andmy wife runs hot) and satellite radio. I almost went premium just for the gps, and my son said I was crazy to spend $800 plus the $3-4000 for the premium just to get gps! He said to just use Waze on my iPhone. So I did in LA,and the crowd sourced waze app is soooo much better than anygps I've ever used.

As I've said before, to each his/her own. The new Stang is simply awesome, andI cant wait until mine comes in!!!

Still not sure what radar detector I'm going to get yet but that and Waze should equate to no worries about tickets...

I agree....a-la-cart would be nice. But then again, it's far from profitable. Packages are so much more convenient.

Another guy here who actually prefers the base trim. Only thing I wish I had from the premium model is the rear bumper cover. Not necessarily for looks, but I've found the base model body color lower section is subject to lots of rock chips. The premium model is black textured plastic and would be more resilient. I'll probably swap these parts out at some point but I prefer the rest of the base accommodations.

I prefer most things about the base, and am happy with it.

I, also coming from an old Subaru just purchased a 16' GT PP with recaros.

I specifically sought out a base model. I wanted the go fast bits without up the luxury. I did not want leather. Even so the tech is waaaay beyond The Subaru.

The base only lets you adjust steering feel between comfort, normal and sport with the button. The voice activation is what I'm still getting used to but it was pretty well covered above.

There are not selectable driving modes but you can turn traction control off with a press of a button, sport mode with a double press. And everything off with a press with 5 sec hold.

For me it's the perfect mix of old school down to business functionality with just enough tech thrown in.

I also have a base GT/PP and didn't really want the leather seats as the cloth recaros were a nice upgrade to the cloth interior, my only regret is not knowing that the rear diffuser would be different and was a bit disappointed when my GT arrived at the dealer with the rear bumper all one color.

I had my camera turned but you get the gist. First video sorry for the quality.

Missed the Double tap sport mode on the trac control..... Texting is already covered. When i bought my car i read the owners manual front to back i recommend you do the same. There are many things you can do with the voice control like selecting audio inputs ect. Just read the manual and you should be fine. Even in base trim you still get a lot of do-hickies

I actually went base GT PP Recaro's because I knew it was going to be nothing more than a toy not a DD. I'm not a supper mod freak but after 1st summer it's been SC'ed springs, sway bar, exhaust, and some minor other little things. I've done some track days, airport runs and a few strips with it. Basically I try and beat the shit out of the thing,, lol. Although I wouldn't need touch screen Sirius radio would have been nice, hard to find Lawrence Welk on am,,lol joking. I just felt if I blew it up or something it be a little easier to swallow a base rather than a premium. Besides my F150 DD got all the navy and "do-hickeys'"
