Total n00b question I know. I feel embarrassed just asking. :giggle: If I want to work under the car safely and easily, where is the best location to put the axle stands. Is it as simple as "anywhere on the front and rear axle"?

Also, is there a way to jack the front and rear in one go to get two stands under at once? Or is it a case do one corner at a time?

If you do one corner at a time how do you get the height, will it not twist or drop off. If you get what I mean.

I've not really put a car on stands before so just don't want to damage anything and want to be safe as well.

Any pictures would be amazing of where to put them. Or advice on best technique.

Thanks all.

The easiest answer is jacking rails. Jack the car from the middle of one side, front and wheel come up at the same time, then move to the other side and repeat. I have Steeda on my car but there’s a few companies that make them and they’re all very similar.

Thanks! So when I jack from the middle of one side and slide the two stands under, where exactly do I place the stands? Sorry haha. I guess one goes under the rear axle but what about the front?

Thanks again.

There are specific locations on the car that are set up for jack stands, many other locations can seriously damage the car. With jacking rails you can place the stand anywhere on the rails without issue. I usually do one on each end to give the widest base and most balance to the car because I’m under the car and don’t wanna die.

These look like the ultra lites (the ones I have) so they aren’t as long. The regular ones are better unless you’re trying to shave as much weight as possible.

Ah sorry so you place the stands on the same jacking rail also. Not underneath the car. How do you handle the v shape of the axle stand on the flat jack rail. I always thought the v shape was like that as the axle goes in the groove.

Do you happen to know the specific stand locations?

Do your best to center the car in the middle of the V and it’s not an issue.

The triangle here points to the jacking location, there’s one marked front and rear. You can see my jacking rail in the pic as well.

OP, if you look under the car, you will see that you physically cannot put a jack stand under the rear axles, as you continue to mention. You could do that on solid axle cars but not on IRS cars. There are control arms in the way.

Install jacking rails > jack from the center of the rail > jack stand on both ends of each rail > done. Don't over think it 👍

Not the most detailed picture but it may help

Thanks hah yeah I do tend to get ahead of myself. :)

I get what you are both suggesting. If that is safe and what most people do then I'll follow your lead.

Appreciate it.

Apologies if this sort of topic had been asked before I did try and do a search before posting. I have 3 ton stands.

I also was reading CJ Pony and where they say to put stands on the S550. So I think I'm clued up now.

These are what I'll be using  - https://www.sealey.co.uk/product/5637184618/axle-stands-pair-3tonne-capacity-per-stand---green
No need to apologize. Always best to ask on something like this beforehand if not sure. Don't want to F-up your ride or hurt yourself.
