idk if this is even a good idea but can you or has anybody installed head studs with engine still in place and by not removing the cylinder heads ? Like take one bolt out install the stud torque it and then go on to the next ?

don't bother; the factory head bolts will keep it anchored up until you break something below them. it's not a walk in the park though man; you'll need to remove the timing cover and camshafts too.

Ya only reason i asked was I’m doing my top mount hellion kit and Lund told me after
14 psi you have the chance of head lifting this is my daily so really ain’t trying to push it I hear you on being a pain I did the oil pump gears and crank gear and it wasn’t too bad but the timing part was more mentally exhausting lol getting it right thanks for the reply though

Yes several people including myself have done it in the car. Honestly if you’ve done the opg already the only other thing to be pulled is the cams and you can do the studs. Make sure you haves coyote valve spring compressor and are able to apply air pressure to the spark plug hole somthe valve doesn’t drop in.
Do one stud at a time and you’ll be just fine. I did it in the order of torquing the head bolts. On my 2016 I was lifting heads with 17psi of Whipple boost so I chose to stud it at that time. It wasn’t lifting afterwards so I can prove that they were working well.

That’s kinda what I figured why do you have to undo the valve springs ?

You lifted the heads and it was ok without changing head gaskets?
Yup sure was. The only sign of lifting that I had was some very minor coolant seepage at the back of both heads. I didn’t have a head gasket leaking at the cylinders at all.

Because Ive had a few garage queens in the past and feel it's a waste. If its not a pure race vehicle, drive and enjoy.

They aren't garage queens if you drive them. But I also have no desire to turn a wrench on my daily. I don't want to have to finish the work I am doing just to go to work. I enjoy the fact I can not worry about my daily, and I can work on my toys at my own pace.

This isn't about not driving rigs.

When you did studs I assume you went with the 11mm studs. Anyone here done the 12mm conversion?
