It sounded like the drop in temp is why the boost went up and they had to dial back.

No. Cobb's is a load based tune. In colder weather it takes less boost to hit the load target, in warmer weather it takes more boost.

Unleashed is probably a boost target based tune.

Example of cobb's ots tune... Say target load at 3500rpm @ WOT is 2.21. In 75* weather in may need to command 25psi to hit that 2.21, In 30* weather it may only need to command 21psi to hit 2.21... Advantage of a load based tune is that it will make consistent power and will be safe to use all year round.

Example of a Boost based tune... Target PSI at 3500rpm @ WOT is 23psi. This one is really simple and it all has to do with ambient air temps. In 75* weather it will hit 23psi, in 30* weather it will hit 23psi. The computer dosn't care how cold or hot it is outside. It's been told to hit a certain boost target and it will. Now who remembers back to science class and the differences between cold and hot air? It's one of the main reasons why T/C cars feel faster in the fall and winter time.

Wait till Cobb releases their ATR software. They will dominate this platform like any other platform they heavily invest in. Other tuning companies will fall to the wayside. They have to much to offer. Not to mention a ford backed contract.

BtW map switching mentioned above is awesome, had it on a previous platform definitely going to be handy for a RWD platform for different driving conditions.

How do you know Cobb's tune is load based? Just curious lol

I believe we make mention to it in our OAR technical document here: https://cobb.app.box.com/ford-oar

Our Mustang OTS calibrations attempt to stay as close to possible as OEM logic and as such utilize the load and torque based targeting systems. There are several ways to approach power delivery on this platform. We have experimented with load, torque, airflow, and pressure based strategies and always come back to load/torque as the most efficient and well rounded approach.

When utilizing this method, the car will produce varying boost levels to achieve the load target or load limit under all possible ambient conditions. While the boost gauge may not read the same at all times, it will attempt to achieve the same engine load. This in effect should produce very consistent power and set the driver expectation to know how the car will feel every time they fire it up.

While this strategy is awesome for daily drivers, there are several other ways to make power. We have created a custom wastegate control solution that allows Accesstuner customers to expand the capabilities well beyond the factory controls. I've added some additional tweaks to the Mustang specifically that are not currently implemented in our Focus ST and Fiesta ST systems that are a welcome improvement for our DIY calibrators.

We'll be adding a lot more as the platform grows, and I'm excited to see how you guys use the controls to make each car unique, and to push these vehicles to the extremes!

Cheers,
-Braden @ COBB

It has been my experience that people will buy whatever tune is fastest 9 out of 10 times. We will see which platform achieves that, whether it be SCT, COBB, Livernois or HPT.

Could you please elaborate on the "Ford backed contract".

You guys and full race are making me reconsider the EB mustang as a viable option. Consistency from a tune with varying weather conditions was hard to achieve on a platform like my Subaru but very easy on the Mazdaspeed when load tuning. Glad to see this type of logic used.

Not sure if helpful but many moons ago when I had my Subaru and used the Accessport, you would need to get a new map or reflash every time you added a new mod or "stage"

I live in Louisiana. It is hot as Satan's taint down here 90% of the time. I am perfectly satisfied with my boost target based tune, as most of the time it won't be an issue. I also really don't care for fluctuations in power production.

Yea... You are going to have to do that on this platform too if you want to see any gains from that mod. Doesn't matter what tuning device you use either.

Thats perfectly fine then. I live up in PA so I see a huge fluctuation in temps year round. A load based tune is more beneficial too me. A boost based tune could actually cause damage when large differences in temps happen. I know a lot of people, including me, that run or have ran a winter and summer boost based tune.

Yeah, we are keeping an eye on it. Really, the car needs upgraded fueling, and then there will be no issue....regardless of DA. This is race season down here, LOL.

Are all of the Unleashed tunes boost target based or was that just used to better fit with your situation/objectives?

Can you please explain this statement further? Why do you feel that way and what exactly can Cobb do that others can not for other platforms?

I'm genuinely curious, not being snarky.

I do appreciate Cobb chiming in to disucss their load based tuning vs. other tuning methods, for instance.
