I got the same answer to the same question on my Forgestar wheels I purchased for my Focus RS. They also were very expensive wheels and after slightly damaging one of them similar to the OP I, called them to ask where I could send them for repair and if I could get some touch up paint. They told me I was on my own to find a place and they don't offer any touch up paint or powder coat for their wheels.

That is weird.

I just kissed a curb with one of my signature sv902s. Thank God it wasn't one of my CF wheels.......

Off to powder coating..... i asked terrance for some of the same powder to exactly match my other wheels. NO was the answer. I asked if I sent it to him if he couls have it done. NO was the answer. I thanked him for supporting his products. I was willing to pay no matter which direction I had to go.

I expected better.
Seems a little strange. Everything else I have heard about the Signature wheels has been positive.
Hope you get it figured out Tom.

wait, what? Wouldn’t give you powder to match or repair?
Cmon there has to be another explanation.
Nope, that's it, straight up.

I'm going to get the wheel powder coated and live with it being a little off. What else am I going to do?

But another set of wheels haha
Or if you can’t get it to match well enough you could do all of them. But that would be a lot more money.

He would sell me another wheel, but his solution was to get it powder coated. He even gave me the name of a few shops. However no powder and no refinishing back to original spec. Period, dot, that was the end of discussion.

That is weird.
Yes it was and after not being able to find a decent place to get the wheel fixed that wasn't so far away that I would have to pay an arm and a leg for shipping, I just decided to buy a new wheel.

Good luck with the repair, if it is anything like my 2013 GT500 PP wheel, you won't be able to match the paint.

I tried awrswheelrepair.com in Santa Barbara, CA and they totally screwed up the wheel.

Here was the original damage:

Here is the repaired wheel:

Here is a comparison of the the 2, left is repaired and right is the original.

that's horrible Earl.

Its kind of funny how this turned out. I buy forged aluminum wheels to avoid damaging my CF wheels, but when I did damage my precious forged wheel, no manufacturer support is available to refurbish it back to spec.

If you damage your CF wheel, you can send it off to be repaired and painted to make it look like it never happened. The bad side of that is the process isn't cheap. Well if you can't repair an aluminum wheel with support from the people who made it so as to make it look like new again, then what's the point? Why not run CF wheels on the street?

I guess I'm fortunate that I only have gloss black on my SV902's. I didn't get a pimp daddy weird ass color for those (despite being heckled by (cough) someone who says they were plain and boring). At least I have a chance to get it close.

On the other hand, I will be totally screwed if I ever curb one of my SV801's. They are the brushed black finish I believe. There is no way you will ever make one of them even close to being right if the wheel is curbed or damaged.

Maybe people ought to look at those form flow cheap wheels in a new light. What is the worst that will happen with those? You trash a wheel and buy another cheap ass replacement? Caliper clearance has been such a big emphasis item that at what point is it not worth it? Scrape a caliper.... repaint it. Big deal.

I was expecting a bit of support not only from someone I know, but also a friend. At least I thought so.

I’m honestly shocked, episodically by how much support from this forum and users they get, that they can’t offer more support to you

I'll get over it. I wasnt going to bring it up, but the subject matter did appear and I happened to recently suffer from the same problem. It is what it is and certainly a lesson learned.

The information I provided is accurate and pertinent to this subject matter. Buy aftermarket wheels of (whatever) brand or origin and expect it to be a one time transaction. If you accept that and the fact that there will be no support down the road, then at least you know what you are getting into.

Again, these are a good set of wheels, but Jesus Crist man, support your product.

Peace out. Rear view mirror......

I could understand not wanting to supply the power coat if it was a proprietary mix, but I bet that is not the case. There is no reason for a manufacturer to not share the paint specs with a customer if it is not a proprietary product and if it is a special powder coat, they should at least offer a repair option.

After what I went through with my wheel, there is no way I would consider buying wheels from a manufacturer that can't help a customer with something as simple as a paint spec.

Thanks Earl.

I agree. If the powder and/or process of coating wheels is a trade secret, then at least have an option to send the wheel in for refinishing. That's why I offered to send the wheel in after my request to buy powder was denied.

Again, if anyone is buying a wheel knowing that the manufacturer will not help in refinishing a wheel after a simple cosmetic defect, then they should understand that it is a one time purchase down a one way street. If you have a special finish on your wheel, then a bit of curb rash turns that beautiful fully forged marvel of engineering into a boat anchor or millstone.

It's probably because they are not manufactured in house. I had HREs on my last Mustang and they had no problem refinishing them. They do everything at their facility in California and I sent in my wheels a couple times for repairs without any issues.
