Don't shoot me if Off Topic too far!!

But, I need to give my 16 year old daughter a car, I've been planning on giving her my 2018 Fusion Sport... So that means I need a "new" daily driver.

So... I said to myself, "How about an OLDER Shelby than my 2016 GT350, or maybe a Convertible V8???"

Self says to me " Gee I wonder..."

Well, I founf a low mileage, 2007 GT500 Ragtop, not that far from me, for what seems to maybe be a good price (even if not I can easily afford it).

What's the consensus? Seems not as amazing as my GT350, but would make a good fun car to drive most of the time.

So, talk me in/out of this harebrained scheme, If I go drive it, I'll be toast...

Thanks in advance,
David

Personally I would do that all day long.
Those old 500s are a blast and in my opinion even better in droptop form so you can hear the exhaust more.
Just make sure not to over pay. The market is not nearly as strong for the convertible version as it is the coupe which ultimately benefits those of us that live in nice weather areas that want a convertible shelby as a daily.

My '07 GT500 was a vert, and I never really fell in love with the car. Not a great handler, nose heavy with plenty of cowl shake. I guess if you wanted strictly a cruiser that you're not going to push hard on twisty roads, it would be OK but they're easily tail happy if you're not careful with the throttle (I'd never put a kid in one). Hellishly expensive engine parts, if you ever had to go there. Having owned one for several years, it didn't really live up to the hype of the Shelby name for me.

Not a ton of car (stock) for the money people want for them

S197 is solid though

Where to determine if the price is good?

Maybe check out online Carfax website to get an idea (range) of what dealerships are asking. So might CarGurus or Cars.com. That said, I wouldn't mind driving an 07-08 GT500 as my daily-around town fun car provided it was low mileage and in good to excellent condition.

Where did you say you live😂. With a little TLC and imagination your daughter will have a car for life that will always be a talking point. I love my car. Been rebuilding slowly.

Ps. It’s a powerful car so only you know your daughter and your trust level. Just saying.

This, as I alluded to above.

The throttle on the GT500s in question is like a light switch as far as tire spin. Factor in a ragtop, and you've got a recipe for disaster with an inexperienced driver.

My previous car was a VMP Gen2 TVS equipped 2009 Convertible. I liked putting the top down, but down here in Atlanta that was really only viable in the spring, fall, and winter with the heat cranked. The summer months were just too hot unless you could maintain enough speed to keep the sweat at bay. The car sounded great, loved the blower whine, but boy it never wanted to hook up on street tires and I ultimately sold it as it handled like an ox cart.

Mine was my daily driver for a year or so before I retired it to "nice weather only daily" just to cut back on washing it 4 times a week. Comfy for that task with the sofa seats and squishy stock suspension setup.

Will get a little off topic for second here, but how do you like the Fusion? Been looking at a few for my soon to be 16 year old for his first car.

Truth is I LOVE my Fusion SPORT. Prior to this one I had a reular SE and it was underpowered for me, but comfy for me and GF with 3 kids. I got this one, 325 HP regular gas, AWD twin turbo V6, and it rocks for a daily driver. good enough quick off the line very sporty suspension, 0-60 5.1 seconds. Safe, comfy Dad Hotrod.

I'm giving it to my 16 year old daughter, for now, it comes back to me and Ill boost it, fat tires, fat fenders LOL.

Definitely reading this, I'm moving to South Florida later this year, and this is one of those exception cars to my budget for a second toy.

What could be done to comfortably address the handling and make it a little more planted?
