The closest I've gotten was throttle body failure.

The 3.7 has been very reliable including the F150.

Not seeing any major failures in the 3.7 or any of it's smaller displacement variants. These are also widely used in the Mazda CX7/CX9 etc. with no known issues.

Its typically a freak incident when a 3.7 takes a dump like that. When you think of the hundreds of thousands.. maybe even millions of 3.5/3.7s out there.. your bound to get a bad apple every now and then....but over all they are pretty damn bullet proof...especially stock, or basic bolt ones.

65,000 Miles here and still going strong. Mass manufactured vehicles will always have those few odd ball failures due to defective parts that pass through the inspection processes.

Only thing that would consider failure and scared the **** out of me was my throttle body giving out. my car went straight into limp mode in a parking lot one night. got the car home safely, sounded like a go kart the whole way lol.

    Is that a common issue?

I'm told i will have a new engine in 7-10 days. The tech says there is a lower end knock. They have not told me yet what failed.

Sorry for your hassle and please give us the "post mortem"... I've been lucky with these 3.7
Cyclone engines...truck had 169,000 and Mazda 6 has 134,000 and Mustang has 10,000 with no problems whatsoever. I insist on using full synthetic Royal Purple motor oil in all my vehicles maybe that helps longevity.

I'm at 33k miles and my only issue is that stupid transmission. All they do is a reset of the KAM and learning system... I'm getting tired of their BS. twice I brought the car for that! It's starting again from time to time! I'm so tired of AT. I used to drive MT all the time and I never had any issue with my other Mustang. I took this one AT to have fun with the paddle shift but it's not worth it at all!
