Any issues using hose on engine bay?

Has anyone washed their engine bay with a hose yet? I use to hit my Jeep's engine every few months with some orange clean followed by a light rinse with a hose. It worked well and I never had any issues, but I was wondering with the added electronics and newer engines is there any risk to the electronics from doing this? I was planning to wrap the air intake and fuse box beforehand. I try to wipe it down with a rag and cleaner every so often but it just doesn't work as well as washing it down.

It is fine. Just don’t “hose” it down. I mean don’t soak it. Do just like your Jeep.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give it a try. My engine still looks good because I wipe it down but you can start seeing dirt building up in the places that you can't really reach without using a hose.

I spray it down with simple green while it's cold, let it soak a minute, then rinse with the hose. Never had a problem. Engine bay nice and sparkling clean!

I’ve done the same cleansing method to every vehicle I’ve owned, never an issue. After rinsing, close hood and let vehicke run for about 10/15mins, the water will evaporate.

If you have an OPEN AIR FILTER ELEMENT (ie:exposed CAI cone filter), you MUST cover it to avoid water injestion.

Simple green can react with aluminum.

For new cars I use a towel and waterless or rinseless wash.

Is this just an issue with Simple Green? Or all the degreasers like Chemical Guys, Adams, Griots, etc.?

Regular Simple Green, they do make an automotive version. I personally don't use it, I'd use an engine degreasing product if mine was that bad.

My mustang isn't a daily driver so it doesn't get too dirty.

yeah the auto version is blue..dont use that it will make alum turn whitish the reg simple green will work just fine i used to run the motor for like 2 min just to get it a little warm then spray.. let it soak a bit then hose it off. and what i mean by hose is with no nozzle on the end of the hose.. dont blast it with a nozzle on it ..ran it like stated above and then used meguires plastic natural shine, looks like new ..and has very min shine(looks like new plastic) and hoses

Thanks for the replies. My engine isn't bad at all so I don't need anything super strong. I'm thinking about just going with one of the specialty engine bay cleaners from Chemical Guys or Griots. I don't want to worry about the aluminum reacting with anything and turning white like it sometimes does.

I use Meguiars D108 Super Degreaser ($19.99 for a gallon) diluted 4:1 followed by Hyper dressing. Works great.
