Some more goodies arrived.

I know how everyone feels about MMR, but I will say, they do make nice parts, their engines on the other hand I can’t speak too.

going to be giving their steel oil pump backing plate with roller thrust bearing system a try.

also got my headers back from being cerakoted. Not sure if it will help with temps much but at least the headers will stay nice for longer.

It’s been a minute, but a ton of progress has been made! Hopefully firing her up this week.

cylinder heads finally showed up. This was the last piece of the puzzle that’s been keeping the car on the lift. Ferrera valves, pac 1234 springs, and obviously cnc ported.

Got the heads torqued and everything in time.

Got her pushed out of the engine room and ready to

went ahead and put the clutch and bellhousing on. It was an absolute mother to get the bell parallel and centered.

The MHS porting looks awesome
He did a great job. I measured the exhaust port opening compared to a gen3 motor we have on the stand. The stock port was about 1.25” and my ported one were about 1.55”. The intake ports were slightly larger as well but I can’t remember the numbers off the top of my head.

Whatever you do, do not use a snapon thread restore somewhere you can’t get at very well. You’ll be pulling your whole driveline if you do.

Got it repaired though. Carbide drill bit for the win.

I’m back to where I was before catastrophe struck. Hopefully first start up in a day or two.

Well, she’s alive! It wasn’t without a fuss though. MMR fudged and sent me a 18+ crank trigger wheel so after chasing my tail for an extra day and having to pull the trans, bellhousing, clutch and flywheel back off, she fired right up. Absolutely pig rich so I’ll deal with that tomorrow with Dakota at Lund.

Thanks! We were all laughing yesterday as I shut the hood and started pulling her off the lift. Car looks bone stock from the outside, like I was never there. 😂

Well todays findings are that ID1700x and pump 91 are no bueno. Wide bands were trimming so much fuel they would just give up and time out. E85 permanently I guess. Not the end of the world, I would have liked to have the option to use 91 in an emergency though.

Another update; cars been driving great, ready to make some WOT pulls for Lund but still waiting on my replacement driveshaft. Also been chasing a terrible belt squeal from the procharger drive system. Got the laser alignment tool out and confirmed my suspicions. The head unit pulley had a .070 shim and was setting that pulley back 1 rib. Pulled the spacer out and quiet as a mouse, well as quiet as an F series blower can be anyway. 😂

Remember when I said we’d revisit the driveshaft/trans? Now is as good of a time as any. Back before I started assembling this car, I blew up the stock clutch, she made it 80k miles trouble free and then just gave up. So In an effort to keep the car up and running while other parts were still coming in I went ahead and installed my mantic triple disc, Tick level 5 t56 magnum and QA1 carbon fiber driveshaft.

Everything went together great. I figured it would be a good opportunity to break in the clutch and trans on low N/A power instead of just throwing it to the wolves. Boy was I glad it went down this way. After some gentle break in miles I decided to let it eat. I was met with and immediately 3rd gear grinding problem. No matter what you could not quickly shift from 2nd to 3rd. I went so far as to let someone else drive the car to see if I was the issue, turns out it wasn’t just me.

Even worse during some of the pulls we were doing the QA1 driveshaft decided to let go. Mind you this is a full bolt on gen 2 on street tires that makes all of 435whp.

So after all that we drag the car in the shop and start making phone calls. Modern Driveline was shocked to hear about the failure but they got right on it, no problem there. Tick performance , on the other hand, informed us that if we wanted to warranty the trans, we would be responsible for shipping to and from them and that they would only warranty their labor not the parts. It’s and brand new tremec t56 magnum “built” by them with less than 1k miles on it.

I elected not to send the trans back to them since they couldn’t get it right the first time, and instead use a local trans builder. This way I know exactly what was wrong with it.

My guy starts the tear down and lo and behold he finds the main shaft as well as some of the gears have rust and pitting, so bad on the main shaft that we replaced it. 3rd gear was also done for thanks to what looked like a used syncro. So I had him go with an aftermarket set of carbon syncros and I also had a .50 6th put in while it was apart. $2700 I have a new trans.

Here are a few pics of the driveshaft failure. Bet it didn’t fail how you all thought it would.

Also here’s what the trans fluid looked like after less than 1k miles
