Natural Selection will eventually sort this out
The drivers aren't the ones being injured/killed when this stuff happens, so no, natural selection isn't going to solve this one. It's taking out bystanders instead, then the driver gets the car fixed or replaced.

I feel like there is legal consequence for injury if/killing someone by driving like this… it’s not just repair the car and go back home

*shrug*
I wouldn’t be standing on the curb capturing Instagram material while jackasses are trying to show off so……

Dont know who is dummer, the maroons behind the wheel or the cellphones in the side of the road...... Too much power, not enough grip or skill....... I'm convinced it is a driver issue, not car issue.

It was raining. A voice in the back ground talk about rain and you can see it in the headlights as they lose it. Cold tires light rain to much gas.

Go try it if you want, you wont be able to get that sideways
I have. Had everything on, in fact. Cold tires and had to punch it in a hairy traffic situation. Car went completely sideways and took a bit to recover. Probably wouldv been easier with everything off because I felt like I was fighting traction control after a point.

Even if that’s the case, you shouldn’t rely on your car to handle itself, you should be able to handle the car without electronics or crashing into crowds. Until you can, find a safe area to practice.
I agree, you need to know where the edge is.. unplug the whole system and see what 420hp to rear wheels does in a 3800lbs car.

Doing it safely at a closed course is not a bad idea.

As a former 1979 930 Porsche pilot, I can tell you when you found the edge. It was usually too late.

If you came back to tell the story, the education was done.

I heard more 930 owners died in the first few days of ownership than any other auto of the time. Taking the crown from the 60's big block vettes.

Luckily I found that "edge" in a 911sc first.😳

Doubt that, youd probably be off the road if advancetrac wasnt on. Its not a dumb system and it works well. You could also just keep traction control on, unless you were intending to do a burnout.

As a long time Mustang Week attendee, I've seen this live many times.

A crowd, plus a fast car and the temptation to show off often outsmarts the driver. Every generation of Mustang can be a pretty unforgiving car. Too many things to factor in to what "could" have gone different. Temperature, tire type/tread condition, traction on/off, was it dry or wet, etc.

Is the crowd at fault? Not directly, but it's also not intelligent to stand on a curb when you know people will be ripping it leave a meet. You could easily place some responsibility on them for encouraging this type of driving by setting the expectation they'll get a show as each driver leaves.

Is it the dealer's fault? Nope, who knows in the eyes of the law since they hosted the event.

The driver had the ultimate decision to make in that moment. We all make mistakes, we all have close calls, but you really have to exercise common sense in these situations. Your 5 second burnout that literally no one will care about after you roll away isn't worth making the news because you almost killed people. Hopefully this kid learns and maybe hangs up fast cars for a bit.
