It is available for 2017 models. 2016 models are still waiting on the software update to sync 3 2.0 in order to gain Android auto and CarPlay.

I called the Ford Customer Service Center a couple days ago after reading the same information and not seeing the Android Auto option under the Sync 3 settings menu.

I was given the same answer I've read previously from other sources..."It will be available later this year." The operator didn't have any other information.

I have been waiting so long. I figured we would have it by September!
I also told one of my customers who bought an F-150 without Nav that I would have a solution for him shortly, its taking way too long!

some people are saying, the USB Port needs to be changed over also? Or is it just a Software upgrade?

Can we just assume that anyone asking this question about Android Auto and Car Play don't have a 2017, because if they had a 2017 they would have these already?

From what everyone can tell, Apple CarPlay requires a USB port change, however, Android Auto does not. I do wish they'd grace us with a USB Type-C option, for those that have newer phones.

Hey All!

The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto updates are due to be released at the end of the year for the 2016 vehicles with SYNC 3. Android Auto will only require a software update whereas Apple CarPlay will require a software update and dealer installed hardware upgrade. Check your SYNC accounts periodically for more details: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/keep-your-sync-up-to-date.html

Is the update actually going to come out, or will end of the year 2016 turn into summer 2017, just like summer 2016 became end of the year 2016?

In short, we're tired of waiting. Many of us bought these cars specifically because we didn't want MFT, and we wanted the ability to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. My car turns a year old in a week, and I still don't have it.

How about Ford actually puts out a firm release date, rather than being vague?

i second that, waited for the 2016 only for AA, instead of 2015.
super pissed by this mess....
wish FORD would own to their word, they presented AA very nicely in 2015 CES but neglected to mention they would toy with us and the release date....

Summer 2016 my a$$

jacknifetoaswan and m.a.s.e,

I certainly understand the frustrations of the feature being pushed back. Unfortunately, we haven't been informed of an exact release date. You're not alone in the waiting game which is why it's important to make your voice heard at http://social.ford.com. Once I'm given more details, I'll be sure to post them for you all!

No, this is for Sync3 version 1.0 (2016 models).
MFT is dead, no updated what so ever for 2015 and below.
So just to confirm, my base model GT will get Android Auto whenever I get Sync3? How will it work, via Sync apps?
