Trading in my garage kept 06 gt premium with 80k miles which is oem and clean and still drives and looks like new.

looking to buy a factory ordered 2021 gt base with automatic and rapid red

paying 39k for the car, getting 9k for my trade in + fees and etc

idk if its a good deal, but kinda doesn't feel like a good deal. I still love my 06, but i really want a 5.0

should i try to haggle for a better price? if so what kind?

I'm going to give horrible financial advise.

If you can afford it who cares....unless you only plan on keeping it a few years.
As long as your not paying over msrp on the new car.

I'm probably going to spend 5 or 10k over sticker on a gt500 soon but if you have seen the other thread on here referencing cancer....

I probably only have about 12 years left to live. So saying to wait a year to me has different meaning if you know what I mean...

Life is short. Enjoy the ride. It's not an investment. It's money we are all wasting to have fun.

Yeah good points guys. Main thing I am concerned about is that I hear the 10r80 transmissions have some issues and lot of people ended up having to do lemon buy backs. I really love my stang, but want a 5.0 but am worried that with this is if I end up having a lemon buyback i will end up stangless with my beloved s197 sold and gone for peanuts

I have a 19 gt with the a10. I have been strictly manual only before this car. A little jerky the first 1000 miles while it learns

Now it is awesome! I can blip the throttle while moving and it does a Rev matched dkwnshift....drag mode is insane... I have a buddy that owns exotics and he even thought they did a great job on the transmission....

This is the first auto car that I have really enjoyed.

I now have an f250 power stroke with the a10 and wife's explorer has the a10...both bought after having such good experience with the mustang

Stop reading crap on the internet. The 10R80 is just fine. As far as a deal, well it might be. What is the MSRP on the new car? What's the book value of your trade? No dealer is going to give you top dollar on a trade and a great price on new car. But as others have said, if you have to have it now, go for it. Otherwise wait until the market cools off a bit.

there's going to be issues with every car/trans combination. albeit very low, the people I read owning them generally 99% love them. and 1% speaks of wonky issues. dont think its a wide spread issue.

and I think I recall many of them fixed it by having it relearn/the trans memory algorithm reset or whatever where it adapts to new memory shifting

I 100% agree with this. Of course mine is in an Ecoboost but I don't think that matters much. The A10 is in so many vehicles, not just Ford, and in so many applications its the least of my worries.

My main thought for you is that they are not offering you enough for yourcurrent car. The current used car market is crazy right now and, to me, the $9k you're being offered seems low. You might consider shopping around on places like Carvana Zoom or even different dealers.

At this time might not be a good idea to buy because of the shortage of chips. If you must have it then you have to but I would wait if it was me. Because I value my hard earn money especially if I know i can get a better deal if I wait till the chip shortage is over. I will kick myself and lot of regrets later on.

Join MCA and get the Ford X-Plan pricing pin number. Dealer cost plus $100 and it works on all Ford vehicles for members. There is a waiting period for it to kick in so get on it now.

No it does not, Shelby mustangs do not qualify, neither does the mach 1 or the raptor. And I don't think you can use x-plan on a super duty above the 350.

First in foremost what state are you in? Second, keep in mind that getting Ford orders right now is held up quite a bit, most dealers can try to do a locate IF there are any sitting on another lot within a few hundred miles. Supply with Ford is awful right now so an order might be your only way. Are you looking for a 300a or 301a package? Track pack? What MSRP were they basing the 39k for the car off of? X-plan is based off of invoice, not cost. It's typically a very small percentage above invoice. AND now is a great time to buy a brand NEW car, as you can still buy them like normal, however trade values are high right now and that includes auction pricing. So 2 years ago a car that went for $2k at auction is probably fetching $3500 now, or a car that would have done $7k is doing $9k, etc.

Also Carmax is 100% irrelevant, as they don't sell new Fords, Carmax might offer a buy number, could be lower, could be higher, but if the dealer is sending the car to auction they would rather not take it as a trade rather than overpay and in turn risk taking a loss on an auction car. Just took a look at Manheim auctions in the NE region and comparable 2006 Mustang GT Premiums with a 3.5 grade or better with 75k-95k miles are going for around $9k. Here's the tricky thing, because of the age and mileage, someone has to pay CASH which greatly limits your market, then you have to look at how outdated it is, probably a car for an older generation market, the kind that picks everything apart and wants to negotiate a boat load of money off. So for the dealer, probably easier to ship it to auction. Keep in mind KBB is a suggestion, it doesn't always reflect what the actual market is doing.

A couple things to keep in mind, Mustangs sell, easily. They are in demand and supply is low. Therefore there's never any rebates on them, and the markup isn't as extensive as most believe. Your Mustang, depending on the dealer, would most likely be sold at auction, unless they attempt to sell it as an as-is unit, which will typically only attract older buyers, with cash in hand, that will pick it apart and try to offer pretty low ball offers as it sits on the lot for I would imagine a while being that it's not super desirable to a large market.

Feel free to message me directly and I will answer any questions you have as well. If you are close to PA you could also deal with my company, which is the best priced and highest volume Ford dealer around.

I'm probably one of the most transparent and thorough guys you'll meet in the car industry as I expect from my employees as well. I hope in some way I helped you out with providing as much info as I can based on the info I have.

1 more thing, our GSM ordered an F-150 earlier this year and the order has been pushed back several times, so if you do order just keep in mind there will be a wait, but that gives you plenty of time to plan for spring :).

Exactly ^^^

The 10R80 is a great trans. The early S550 10R80's did have some minor issues, such as valve bodies or need for reflash of software. What most people do not understand about the 10R80 is this:

It's an adaptive learning trans. The longer it's driven, the better it gets as it learns from the driver's input as well as speed/rpm/Drive Mode/Trans Mode and relative shift points. Also what is meant by longer driven is how often the car is driven and on what type of routes. If the car is always used for daily long trips then all of the sudden is only used for sporadic short in-town bursts, then it has to adapt again.

There is a very large 10R80 thread I put together with links and attachments that contains nearly everything and anything one is needing to know about the 10R80 - not just it's minor issues - but all sorts of facts. Yes, it's a very large thread - BUT the FIRST post in that thread is the most important as that is where all the 10R80 education is located.

Also, not all S550 Buy Backs are 10R80 related - not sure where that info is coming from...
