If you put in the clutch the ACC will disengage guaranteed. For those on the fence for this option it may not be for you. I use it on my other non ford vehicles with autos and really like it so it's easy for me to order it with a manual trans, should work fine for me.
Okay, I wasn't sure how Ford does it on manual transmission cars. Audi's ACC allows you to shift gears without disengaging the ACC system.

So what about the collision warning system then? Brakes get applied independent of what gear we are in or if we are on the clutch or not?
Collision Warning doesn't apply brakes. It only pre charges your brakes to engage them quicker/harder the moment you hit them. And gives you a visual and audio warning.

Another so called feature that most (all?) new cars have, that I find totally useless, is cruise control. I really like to drive and can't for the life of me understand why anyone would ever want to use that.

Only way to go on highways (trips)..Better than trying to maintain speed on medium/long trips with your foot.

Also better MPGs.

On my current car I use cruise control every single day. I can't do without it, it keeps me from getting speeding tickets, and as mentioned earlier, better mpg.

I agree that Cruise Control is a total waste for most Highway driving. Unless your traveling in a very remote rural stretch of road, traffic usually causes you to brake, and you need to resume your Cruise Control settings. In the past 40 years, almost every Car I`ve owned has had that feature and I probably have used it a total of a half dozen times, much like Fog Lamps!

In the past 40 years, almost every Car I`ve owned has had that feature and I probably have used it a total of a half dozen times, much like Fog Lamps!
You just need adaptive cruise control. :) Then you can use it in heavy traffic and make videos like this guy.

I don't use cruise very often, but that is more because I don't do long road trips very often.

So you are two of those people that I constantly have to turn my cruise control off for because you can't maintain a constant speed. Cruise control isn't just about you, it's about the other drivers around you as well. Cruise control allows you to be a more predictable driver to those around you instead of dealing with you constantly speeding up and slowing down.

The difference between the A7 and the Mustang is the Mustang's ACC disables itself under 12mph (according to the manual), while the A7 can come to a complete stop. The Mustang's system would be completely useless in that situation.

I'm not sure about the guys above me who are against cruise control... Yes, I love to drive, but on the highway? I get no joy out of that, unless I have a chance to pass someone. If you're driving on a straight, level stretch of road for hours, why not have the car set a constant, consistent speed?

Make that three. I can hold a pretty steady speed when conditions permit, but I'm under no obligation to maintain precisely whatever speed you decided to set your CC to. Basically I'm going to drive by the road conditions of the moment, and if that ever dips only 1 mph below your setpoint you're still going to have to do something about it.

There are times when a temporary speed increase or maybe just a little leading throttle is a good thing, and CC has no way of knowing about these. If inability of a non-CC driver to maintain a perfectly constant speed is an irritation to some, so can CC's insistence on a flat, fixed speed be equally annoying to others.

What I've also found to be predictable is that drivers with their CC set will come charging up to the last couple of car lengths before kicking it off. Certainly predictable, but absolutely not in a good way . . . IOW, predictability isn't just about favoring the drivers who want to use CC.

You're right, you aren't under any obligation to hold a speed. I'm also not saying that I expect drivers to hold their speed to MY speed. I'm saying when driving conditions are suitable there really isn't a good reason to not utilize cruise control.

The frustration with drivers who don't use cruise control is the constant up and down changes of your speed for no reason. Most notably, I can have my cruise set to 75 coming up on a car in the right lane that at the moment is going 70. I move over to pass and all of a sudden I reach the bumper of the car and they start speeding up. Now I'm not passing them, then all of a sudden they start pulling away from me. Annoying. So I get back behind them. Fine. Then just another mile up the road with my cruise still set to 75 I'm coming up on their bumper again!!! This happens ALL THE TIME.

If road conditions are unsafe for cruise control such as heavy traffic, poor weather or what have you, obviously fluctuations in speed are safe and the norm. But when it's a sunny day with light traffic on a straight stretch of road, the non-use of cruise control is an unnecessary nuisance.

Regarding your approaching rear vehicle example, that would be no different whether the vehicle was cruising at a speed faster than you or had their own foot on the pedal.

Going to have to disagree with you here. I didn't have cruise control until 1.5 years ago. I've never had a problem maintaining my speed myself neither then nor now especially in familiar areas. Heck half the time people with cruise control get on my nerves cause they lock it in a 71, approach a car doing 69 (haha), and pass each other at a rate of 2mph cause they refuse to either accelerate and get out of the way or turn off the CC and let the other vehicle pass:rant::frusty::tsk: (hope your not one of those:threadjacked:)

Though I do enjoy it and use it pretty regularly, I also like to leave it off and just drive my car even especially on long trips rather than halfway falling asleep bored just steer the car while it drives itself lol. And as for MPG I find if I drive my car casually rather than playing and having fun in it (like just cruising -control lol) I actually get better fuel economy than the CC...

I guess we're not the same kind of driver. My goal is definitely not to hold the same constant speed.
Thanks for commenting on my thought though. I see now that there actually are people using cruise control, even on a forum like this, which kind of explains why car manufacturers put in in their cars.

I actually see it differently, cruise control is actually a blessing I know there are several times when I have just wanted to punch it but left myself in the cruise control on about 5mph over limit, low and behold, a cop sits there on the other side of the bridge or hill or blacked out on the side of the road... I use it every morning when traffic is very light... and good weather of course. For fog lamps, I actually use them every day as well... I think of them as expanded light as it is exactly that and lower to the ground .. it's great in the thick fog and I also use it when entering bases as a driving light when the main ones are off.... the only one I have not used often is high beams... a rare occasion when no one is on the road and other when signaling someone to go ahead or catch attention. Just my view.

Genuinely curious, if you are on a long trip with a constant speed limit, what exactly is your goal - regarding cruising speed?

And one thing that is has not been mentioned (I don't think) regarding the use of cruise on long trips, is that it lets you move your feet/legs to different positions. Keeps the ol' blood flowing a bit better.
