Accidently driving at 100mph

So first off I want to say this isn't a bragging thread and I don't want to promote street racing or anything. This is purely about the mustang as a powerful machine

Anyway, the other day I was driving down a mostly empty freeway. Thought I was hovering around 70 but when I looked at the speedo I was slightly above 100. This blew my mind. For starters the engine didn't even seem stressed, the handling felt planted as usual. While I found it scary I could go that fast without knowing it also impressed me how well these cars are built.

Have any of you found yourself in a similar situation?

I feel that around 80. After that I heard motor because of the 373s. But yea 100 is easy too.

I took a scenic drive (through Mexico, naturally) a while back, on some lonely country roads, and found myself settling out at about 90mph. It didn't feel fast or slow, and I wasn't trying to hold that speed, it just seemed like the car liked it there. Even after slowing down for a curve or making a turn onto another road, I'd look down a couple minutes later... 90mph.

I'd be in trouble without cruise control.

I had that problem in the beginning, but I got used to the car fairly quick. Pay more attention to the speedometer

I've hit a hundred quite a few times on accident in this car. It's easy to do, especially with the stock exhaust.

I still drive my 95 GT quite a bit and it's loud and pretty slow so switching over from long tubes, off road x, and flowmasters and almost half the power and then getting into the new car it surprises me sometimes when I finally look down at the speedo. Hasn't happened since I put the resonator delete on though so maybe that's a sign the exhaust is too freaking quiet on the s550.

The S550 is so quiet and comfy you barely notice when you doing 90-100.
My exhaust is loud enough to remind me what kind of speed I am doing.

I had the same encounter when I first test drove the new 2015. I had pulled out and was traveling down the street when a Prius pulled out ahead of me. I grumbled thinking that I would never get to try out the car. I looked down to discover we were both traveling 20 mph over the posted limit.
I think the car is more refined and that you don't feel that sense of speed like you did with the older S197 and S95 models.

Depends on what you're used to. It's so easy to hit 100 in this car that the length of time one spends at full/higher throttle to get to freeway speeds is grossly overestimated. From say, 40 mph, it doesn't take more than a few seconds to hit 100, and the car is so composed that you don't really notice any change in the car's behavior. I did this exact "experiment" with a friend of mine, where I pulled onto an entrance ramp to a pretty much empty freeway and gave it the beans from 3rd, through 4th. I asked my friend how fast he thought we were going and he said about 90. It was quite a bit more :lol:

Pay attention to the speedo, though ;)

I wouldn't say I've ever caught myself cruising that fast (maybe 10-20km/h over), but I do find when you decide to do some fast passes on 2 lane highways, or have some fun on on-ramps, you do find the end speed to be quicker than you had anticipated.

So my story is that my daily driver had been a 2001 dodge ram 2500 turbo cummins before my mustang. That truck is getting up there in age and can't actually go faster than 80 at the moment. And around 75 it feels like the world is about to end.

So when my mustang gt became my daily driver it took a while for me to get used to the throttle response

Being UK based, I have had the pleasure of having taken my ecoboost convertible to Germany - on the (partially) unlimited autobahns!

I found that 110 is a comfortable cruising speed, and you still get overtaken by the Dutch in their big Audi's!

And the fuel economy at that speed isn't as bad as I expected - around 25 miles or more to the US gallon.

I am doing this again in a couple of weeks so I will get more data then.

I also knew that a state trooper wouldn't like that excuse, which led me to really appreciate the beefy stock brakes on the gt :lol:

75-80 is normal speed on the local highway, passing a string of trucks (or Californians) at 90+ when needed, no stress.
