Didn't find any related discussions with the search.

Ordered an '18 GT Fastback Auto back in Feb, will be delivered in May. I've been doing as much research as I can find on the auto tranny power limits, I've been putting together my parts list of upgrades but haven't been able to find any docs on what the auto is capable of handling before internals are needed.

Does anyone have any info on this yet?

not enough time yet. there hasnt been any failures, NA setups dont seem to be an issue have to wait for more boosted applications and more people to push the limits to see when they start to fail

Ford's automatic transmission names typically follow this principle:

XYZZ

X is number of gears
Y is FWD vs. RWD
ZZ is torque rating in N*m divided by 10

So the 10R80 transmission is 10 gears, for RWD platform, and built to comfortably handle 800 N*m of torque (about 590 lb*ft)

I have heard mentioned that its has been tested to about 800whp before it may start having issues holding the power properly. Not necessarily a failure but some sort of slipping issue beyond that power level. Take that for what its worth, its the internet...

I have no idea what the internal differences are but as we all know, the ZL1 uses this tranny and its making some ponies. But again, idk what differences lie between our version and the Camaros.

My understanding was internally they're the same tranny but there's no design specs to confirm for sure and I haven't seen anything to confirm or deny if that's the case. I guess I'll just wait on the forced induction until there's some more details and someone starts pushing them too hard to have aftermarket internals kits out there. I certainly don't want to be the guinea pig lol.

I didn't think it is the "same transmission". I thought they just shared technology for the hardware development. So the hardware should be basically the same, but use their own software.

And the ZL1's put out 650 hp and 650 lbs of torque stock.

This is also the same transmission used in F-150's capable of towing 12,000 lbs. And in the Raptor which has 510 lbs of torque. Right?

Ford's automatic transmission names typically follow this principle:

XYZZ

X is number of gears
Y is FWD vs. RWD
ZZ is torque rating in N*m divided by 10

So the 10R80 transmission is 10 gears, for RWD platform, and built to comfortably handle 800 N*m of torque (about 590 lb*ft)

:headbang: Eggscellent post. :clap2:

So its basically rated for 600 lbs of torque? But considering the ZL1 has 650lbs of torque that rating is too low.

I'm thinking that's the case since they probably have a wider margin of error to reduce failures and warranty issues. Say, for instance, it's been designed and engineered to handle 700 lbs but they claim 600 lbs as the limit to reduce warranty claims and whatnot.

There's definitely a safety factor in Ford's numbers. Everything has one

For the ZL1, its computers could modulate the torque so all 650 lb*ft isn't applied in a way that would grenade the transmission or the weak spots could be reinforced to safely handle the torque

I broke my 6R80's torque converter at 503 ft/lbs.

Just because the model number rates it at 590ft/lbs doesn't mean it will still hold up once the transmission is tuned and line/shift pressures are raised.

Looking through all of the options, I wonder if the auto tranny receives any upgrades or internals for the Roush Jackhammer package, that pushes 710 hp

Yeah it's just the half shafts they swap, axle, tranny, and driveshaft itself appear to be unchanged based on the Roush docs I was able to find. I sent them an e-mail to see if they do anything that's not listed.
