I’ve gone on record as saying that the 6-piston Brembo brakes on my HPP+HP are total overkill for everything short of track use, which I don’t do.

I’d like to officially retract that statement after last night’s experience.

M-14, West of Ann Arbor, heading Eastbound just past the Miller Road exit in my HPP. Cruising at ~75mph. Something moved off to my left. I IMMEDIATELY put the brake pedal to the floor and watched as one of Michigan’s infamous whitetail deer ran across the road about 100ft in front of me. Brakes did the job and got me nearly to a stop as the deer ran harmlessly off the right shoulder. Let’s be honest - my quick reaction time probably made the difference, but DAMN did those brakes lock it down super fast!!

My wife and I were nearing the end of a long weekend trip, and every movable object inside the car ended up in the front footwells.

So the car was unharmed, and the deer survived to hopefully get arrowed/shot by a hunter in the coming weeks. Seriously - Michigan has TWO MILLION whitetail deer, the majority of which are in the heavily populated Lower Peninsula. It’s ridiculous, and it’s a major threat to life, limb and property.

TL;DR: Brembos kick ass and saved the day.

Now I’m off to grab some Tylenol because I’m pretty sure my brain crashed into the inside front of my skull and I’ve had a headache all day!!

Not dissing the 6-pots, mind, but I would light a candle in the direction of the RE980 tires in this case.

We annihilated wolves and other "pests" without a second thought to ecological balance, but we let Bambi multiply out of control. What the hell is wrong with Department of Natural Resources et. al. Deer season should be Sep thru April. At least I could then harvest venison without freezing my extremities off.

Right. Even the 4 piston standard GT brakes with some stickier rubber will suck the eyes out of your sockets on hard braking.

Oh, definitely! Great brakes are worthless without great tires, and the RE980’s have been a delight.

I didn’t grow up around hunting so I never got interested, but 2M deer is just absurd. It’s actually unhealthy for the overall population to be that large, and we are definitely seeing those signs. At least this year DNR is allowing hunters to take one extra doe with whatever permit they have.

The 250,000 wild turkeys are no picnic either. Those assholes will fight their reflection in your car’s paint. The toms will just walk down the middle of the road like they own it. And you DO NOT want to hit one - they’re like a 25lb bowling ball and will wreck your stuff. Beautiful birds, but their numbers have become a major problem too.

For real, wild turkeys are no joke. We’ve got a few that hang around in the backyard every now and then. Seen them chase after dogs twice their size. Also have our fair share of deer, foxes and coyotes too. The foxes and coyotes are the ones we have to watch for the most. They just walk down the street without giving 2 f$&@!s. Won’t do as much damage as a turkey or deer, but I’d rather not scrape them out of my grille.

What does your G meter say?

I know I've pulled 1.23G on the street with the stock GT brakes on my EB HPP with FK 510.

RE980 are great tires.

Observation and reaction skills put you in the Ninja realm!!

If my app is to be believed, that was a 1.48G brake event.

Exact same happened to me last year. But with base 300A GT brakes w/ Firehawk Indy 500's.

Are the Potenza's that sticky?
'sticky' no. Grippy. Warm cup2 are tacky like fly-paper. Warm Potenzas just feel warm.

They are really good tires in temperate temps. Cold they flat-spot pretty bad so it takes a few minutes for the thumpa-thumpa to stop. I just pretend I'm Lecarc after a horrible lockup at Turn 1.

I consider the DWS06 better in cold (<45F) and a very close 2nd place behind the RE in warm, if you air them up a bit.

I don’t worry about my brakes nearly as much as I worry about the brakes of the person behind me.

They’re pretty impressive, but that decel rate is shocking. I don’t think they broke traction, but they were shrieking loudly towards the end of the stop.
