This is probably a wild guess OP but I'm wondering if the sound you thought was the gearbox pump was in fact the same sound I think most have heard from the car when it's off. To me it appears to come from the right rear area. Relay sound kinda thing. It would have been quite a coincidence to happen RIGHT after you unlocked the the junction but it seems possible from what you said, at least to me and Lord knows, I'm no expert, I've just heard that sound enough times. :-)

Hope it was nothing.
This is the mystery noise most of us have.

Solved my mystery sound that talks to me. Was both side flaps in the exhausts going the same time.
My thought is both are programmed to run periodically so if you don't use the dash toggle exhaust setting the flaps don't seize up.

No offense but that’s not exactly a cheap piece to play around with. It has a warranty and if you mistakenly make an error playing with it you might jeopardize that warranty.
The DCT is the only thing that scares me with this car but it seems that Tremec/Ford Performance have hit a home run.

You’re absolutely right. If I’d have known it would do that, I would have approached differently. I’ve never experienced that before with ignition off, and I’ve done minor (and major) work with a lot of late model ford stuff. But it’s too late now.
This is the mystery noise most of us have.
I have what I think is that sound also. Not too worried about it.

have about 75 miles since that happened. Have to drive 1.5 hours (one way) tomorrow (consequently, to pick up oil filters for this thing). Debating on weather to take it or the wifes car. Part of me wants to prove it but part of me doesn’t want to chance being stranded that far from home.

The valves are activated by the car when your key fob is within range I am told. The car is getting ready for you to enter and start it.
Same holds true with many other new cars that recognize the holder of the key as you approach and turn on puddle lamps, put the seat in the correct position for the person holding that key, etc.

Now if you you approach the car and your keys are nowhere near you or the car and it starts clicking and activating stuff. Hire a priest.

Drove it 180 miles total, interstate, some city and traffic, today. A mix of conditions. Was misty when we left this morning. Drove just fine. Never went wide open but had spirited moment or two. Trans temp never got over 125* and would drop to 116* as soon as airflow was maintained any length of time. Air temp 60-63*. No Powertrain malfunction. I’m cautiously hopeful that that episode is behind us. I still hear the weird, almost grind noise in 3rd and very light throttle and low rpm, almost when lugged a little. But only in the car. Can’t hear it when window is open and hanging out the door. I’m almost wondering if that isn’t an airflow noise due to throttle position and harmonics. I dunno. Not too worried about that. If it is a grind, it’ll make itself known quickly lol! But many others have heard it in theirs, with no issues.

Welcome back, Sam and thanks for the solution. I never thought to check those damn valves but, why is it happening at odd times with power off?
Thanks KB. Hop on here when I have time to see what's happening.
Noise is just Shelby saying when the hell are you taking me out for a cruise :cwl:
