"Auto telematics is a method of sharing information like GPS and diagnostics recorded by your vehicle with a third party, such as an insurance company or mechanic. Auto telematics is the use of communications and information technology to transmit driving and vehicle information."Let me try again. Please elaborate on your direct knowledge of this alleged telematics that is stored in your car. Not what you read on the internet, your direct knowledge.
Simple question, do you have Ford Pass set up ?Let me try again. Please elaborate on your direct knowledge of this alleged telematics that is stored in your car. Not what you read on the internet, your direct knowledge.
I do, but it’s not relevant to the discussion. We are talking about telematics stored in your car and accessible locally, which in our case is fairly limited in time and information. I am well aware of what is transmitted to ford, but that was happening before FordPass even existed and may still happen even if FordPass isn’t setup. You won’t be completely safe unless you remove the TCU.Simple question, do you have Ford Pass set up ?
Att sent me note that my smart phone needs newer than 3g to work.luckily have 4g.do im,hoping I'm good with maps.they said if I had 3g I'd need to get new phoneI don't think so. That uses your phones service.
Interesting in that every article regarding 3G and Ford they state that Ford does not and has not used 3G for non app purposes. No 2020 vehicles use 3G.Not all. There are some 2020 Ford vehicles affected.
So tunes out that some Ford vehicles use 3G for use with their apps. Her is that list. turns out there are big to do about how Lincoln is handling this upgrade. Dealers are reallyconfused (no kidding). found this on one of the Lincoln sites.Received a notice from Lincoln for my wife's 2017 MKZ that 3G was being turned off. Upgrade to a 4G dealer installed modem for <$300. 4G is installed in all 2018 and newer Fords and Lincolns.
Not happening. @Hanavarian does post some very interesting and sometimes strange things. This comment was totally false. Ford can only share your information with insurance companies if you give them permission to do so.Let me try again. Please elaborate on your direct knowledge of this alleged telematics that is stored in your car. Not what you read on the internet, your direct knowledge.
The really diabolical thing is that even if you pull the TCU fuse or otherwise disconnect it, if you connect your phone the car can transmit using your phone if you have the FordPass app installed. Not sure if it can piggyback otherwise, but they sure thought of everything.I do, but it’s not relevant to the discussion. So remove FordPass. Problem solved. The really diabolical thing is that even if you pull the TCU fuse or otherwise disconnect it, if you connect your phone the car can transmit using your phone if you have the FordPass app installed.
Here is the catch... Those newer vehicles were on a different app called MyFordMobile that was tailored to the PHEV and BEV vehicles. It was always understood that the MFM app was only 3g compatible while FordPass was only 4g compatible. Despite Ford knowing the 3g sunset was coming for years, they continued to use 3g modems up to 2020my in the Energi. The Fordpass app had to be redesigned to accommodate these vehicles that are now converting to 4g. Makes no sense why Ford backed themselves in a corner at the last minute on this.Interesting in that every article regarding 3G and Ford they state that Ford does not and has not used 3G for non app purposes. No 2020 vehicles use 3G.

Thanks bikeman.what does non app mean,e.g. can i receive a text or make call thru the steering wheel.can I use the nav system, which I love.Interesting in that every article regarding 3G and Ford they state that Ford does not and has not used 3G for non app purposes. No 2020 vehicles use 3G.

The person you talked to is a clueless fool. Metro uses T-Mobile towers, and T-Mobile is turning off 3G in July. Period. It won't work after that if you don't have an LTE or 5G device. My phone carrier Metro PCS told me that they were not doing away with 3g coverage any time in the future. But who knows what the future holds.
I don't do social media and if my ford pass/nav system quits working then I guess I will go back to old skool with a paper map like I grew up using. I have so much turned off in my iPhone it's a dumb smart phone.
