I kind of thought the same thing since I know metro is part of T-moblie. I do have LTE and Wi-Fi at home but honestly all I use my phone for is making calls, texting and taking pics so of its quits working no biggie to me. I am old skool till the day I die.

Plus side for me is if my phone quits then no more scam likely calls.

They are turning off GSM phone call functionality. That's why you *must* have LTE or better, even on a "flip" phone or whatever (yes, they make LTE flip phones). The technology is VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and it is a high definition audio quality that functions using data transmissions rather than old fashioned GSM/CDMA phone connections. It's the literal reason why you have to get a phone that is LTE/4G or 5G, because otherwise you won't even be able to call 9-1-1. It'll be a brick.

It cost me $200 to swap out my home alarm’s 3G modem for a 4G modem. My alarm company offered it at cost for the modem and free labor for the swap. So to have $300 - $400 estimates to swap out a modem in a car does not sound out of line.

Well now that you state that I am not sure if mine will still work or not since it's an IPhone 6s and shows LTE when away from home but unsure if its 3 or 4g. I know it's a GSM/CDMA phone so i guess I may have a brick soon.

How do I check if its 3 or 4 g.

Thank you Bikeman315

I had my phone on LTE not 4G and sure would have been an unhappy camper.

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution. It's a term used for the particular type of 4G that delivers the fastest mobile Internet experience. You'll usually see it called 4G LTE. Using a 4G smartphone on Verizon's 4G LTE network means you can download files from the Internet up to 10 times faster than with 3G.

I'm not an iPhone guy, but a little Googling says the 6S is 4G/LTE capable. You may need to enable it in a menu, but it should be there.

Anything iPhone 5 or newer is 4G LTE. iPhone 4S was the last to use 3G.

So, which should I have my phone set on LTE or 4G for best performance and speed? It is either or not both in my phone

Also, by the way you have to go to settings/Wi-Fi off/cellular data roaming to change from LTE to 4G.

I am an old auto tech so know cars but not a PC/cell phone guru by any means.
