Ok, I have a 2017 Mustang GT convertible and want to install 20 mm wheel spacers on the rear wheels, but the inside of the mounting surface of the rim is flat. In other words, the studs would hit the rim, therefore, preventing to wheel from being mounted flush on the spacer like it should be. I know people have trimmed their lug bolts to correct this problem, but has anyone drilled holes just deep enough on the inside of the rim mounting surface so the tip of the lugs slip in and allow the rim to be mounted flush? I have aluminum wheels, so drill 5 shallow holes wouldn't be a problem

Bolt on spacers and removing material from the wheels for clearance ?
R u serious ?
Both separately are bad ideas and even worse as a combination

Use 25mm spacers. Should be enough clearance.

The wheel hub should have a ton of material. It's not uncommon to have large pockets on the backside.

I think spacers are a silly/bad idea but some people are just enamored with them.

Stop.

use correct offset or install extended lugs to accommodate the spacer required.

Don’t use bolt on spacers. Only use slip on units.

Just get extended studs and slip on spacers. I know a guy that did what you are suggesting, didn't get one of the pockets deep enough, and his tire was about to come off after a short ride. It's just so easy to do it the right way.
