I know the Mustang isn't the most aerodynamic design in the world, but I would still kind of expect a bone stock GT500 to be able to break 200. Does it not?
Not the 2020+ cars. 13-14 GT500's did.

You’re probably aware the S550 GT500’s come with a limiter set at
180 mph. Some will go a little faster
stock, but not by much.

Yeah but thats literally just an ECU tune away. I think his point is couldn't a GT500 with JUST an ECU tune do this? And if so.... whats the big deal?

I mean in 2000 I changed my Escort to be electronically limited from 106 to 255, doesn't mean i could hit it, but thats like saying I changed the limiter, then did 110 and became the worlds fastest Escort. MANY other guys did the same thing. So it seems odd to me NO ONE has put a pulley/tune on a GT500 since 2013 and gone faster than 204MPH, more so when the 13-14 could already do like 198-200.

The car in the video was the GT500 Venom 1000. The car was tuned and had a pully to get 1000 hp. You would think if at that hp it only did 204, the stock car is not going to get to 200 with a tune???? How many more ponies do you get out of just a tune? e85 you would get a few more but 1000? I don't know.

I still want to see a completely stock car with the only mod being the speed limiter turned off going all out to see what it can do.

They may have known due to aero, the car cannot do much more and are going to save the next all out for their 1200 hp version? That would be my guess at letting up but I am no professional race car/test car driver.

He was asking why a bone stock GT500 couldn't do 200 mph. IMO, it probably could,
minus the limiter, so I agree with you. We're dealing with Hennessey and he knows
what hype is. The only thing I like about Hennessey is his 1/4 drag strip, which when
run the reverse direction makes a short but pretty cool road course.

I agree with you. I've been waiting since day one for someone to take the limiter
off and determine terminal velocity. Probably a non CFTP car would be slightly
faster. That big wing on the back is not going to help top speed.

An example is: I actually knew someone crazy enough to take a Ferrari F40 to
Bonneville. The class he was running did not permit aero changes and that big
wing on the back was working against him.

I have a '14 GT500, I had it up to 186 mph at The Mojave Magnum, 1.5 miles, bone
stock. From my limited land speed experiences, anytime you get over 180-190
mph, speed beyond that takes a lot of horsepower. 662 hp on a '13/'14 vs 760 hp
on a '20-'22 seems like a lot, but at speeds approaching 200 mph, maybe not.
If anyone here is a math genius, there is a math equation to calculate top speed
of a car. You need the aero numbers for the vehicle obviously.

I'm guessing the reason we have not seen too many limiter off documented
speed runs with the GT500 is lack of real estate to do it. I personally would not
take a Shelby Mustang to Bonneville and subject it to that corrosive environment.

To illustrate what I was referring to concerning speed over 180 mph, watch this:
Once he gets up to 180 mph it takes quite a while to get to an indicated 200 mph.
The mark past 190 mph is 200. Ford tested the 2013 GT500 at 202 mph at The
Nardo 7.8 mile circular test track.

10-12 mph on top speed is huge, the difference between just under 190 and just over 200 is easily a 100hp+ difference
If a stock 2013/2014 GT500 can do 202 mph, I'm guessing that the '20-'22 GT500
can easily go faster, minus the speed limiter. Gearing is totally different on these
two cars. Ford wanted long legs on the '13/'14. If you watch the Christmas Tree 192
mph run, Spencer was about 7500 rpm @ 192 mph in 5th gear. So for running flat
out, the way the car was pulling up to 204 mph in 6th gear I really doubt he had
reached the rev limiter. 5th gear is 086.1 and 6th gear is 068.1. 7th gear is too tall
for this at 056.1.
I'm just using Spencer's runs as an example, we've been debating how fast a bone
stock S550 GT500 can go if the limiter was disabled. I agree with you to a point.
The extra horsepower the newer GT500 has may not make it substantially faster
than the '13/'14 cars, but I'd expect it to be slightly faster. We'll just have to wait
until someone documents this.

Define not even close. There’s a member here with a stock cftp thats just under 190 at daytona.
Yes, and that's with that 'big' wing holding it back and (most likely) the windows down.

A UK GT with a best pull of 704 whp ("Today the car pulled from 688whp, 694 and 698 and managed a best of 704whp") went 203 mph in 1.2 miles : https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/my-supercharged-200-mph-build.131531/

The GT500 is about 690 to the wheel totally stock - I'm defo in the camp that thinks given enough room, the 500's delimited top speed would begin with a 2 :like:
