Per R&T -- During Barrett-Jackson’s auction in Houston last Saturday, a single 2022 Ford Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition sold for $1,000,938. That’s quite a premium over the $82,955 base price of the Heritage Edition as currently listed on Ford’s website. What got the price up there is that all the money raised went to charity. In this case, to charities working to alleviate suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian ripping across Florida.

That wasn't the actual sales price. The car actually sold twice. Once for $400k. That buyer donated the car back to sell again. Second sale was $300k I recall. The difference was additional individual contributors "donating".

That’s really cool.

You're looking at it all wrong... its not thievery as the likelihood of these cars diminishing in value is slim. They are collectors or investments. The more electric cars made the more valuable these get.

There will be plenty of GT500’s for sale in the next year or two when something new comes out. Patience. Many will be weekend low mileage cars. You’ll see.

It’s equally possible that the vast majority of the current and projected population has a lack of knowledge and thereby any feelings of nostalgia for these cars? Given the general climate awareness trending internationally, is it possible that cars like these are looked at with some disdain by the current or future buying public?
Most people aren’t going to race on track, so those 600 HP electric skateboards work great. Every day there’s more traffic. When we had our old muscle cars there wasn’t nearly as many cars on the road.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned through this whole covid ordeal, is that nothing can be counted on, this world has changed and so have the people in it. Change will continue in ways we never imagined. Buckle up.

They're not going for "big money", it's a facade that is only seen with Barrett Jackson's "charity" vehicles. Just because XYZ "charity car" sold for ridiculous money on TV doesn't mean every car like it is going to sell for the same now or later in the future.

Case in point - S550 GT500 Heritage, sold and hammered for $145k just the other day @ Mecum:

So that car was what mid 150’s to high 150’s with fee’s. Msrp is 115k. So 40k plus over msrp. That’s pretty much the norm for those. That’s hardly a facade.
