Hey guys, quick question.

My 2022 Mustang GT battery is on its way out, and I’m looking to replace it. I don’t drive much — usually under an hour a day.

Has anyone upgraded to an AGM battery? Any good options you’d recommend?

Also curious if anyone has fitted an H6 size battery — does it fit straight in, or do we need to modify the battery tray?

Cheers!

Nope, I just went with the stock replacement…first one lasted 7 years on a battery tender, this one is on year 3 and going strong 😬

We just put a 5-year AGM battery in the Explorer for ~$300 from Autozone. I think AGM is the way to go these days.

Just google for "96R AGM" and go from there. I think AGM is more important than Motorcraft brand.

I'm just starting my 6th year on a Diehard Platinum AGM 96R.
I hate that they discontinued it. AGM 96r seem to be slim pickings now.

I'm in Texas and the stock batteries only make it a year maybe two due to heat. AGM have been great for me.

That being said mines about 5ish years old and its starting to struggle when its really hot in the engine bay. I am planning on switching to the new sizing from the s650. There is a thread on here somewhere, you can get and slightly modify the new battery tray/firewall to fit in our cars and that allows for the more available H6 size and some group 48 batteries.

Found the thread:

im not arguing against AGMs, but I don’t think heat is your problem…plenty of us in Texas have no issues with factory batteries 😉

…do you use a battery tender at all?

No guidance on the battery, but make sure to put a towel over the fender well for when the terminal shim inevitably falls out and tries to make a run for freedom into your fender....

I do now as I don't drive it all that often. But I dallied a 2012 with the two year pattern, upgraded to an 18 and made it a year before it needed to be replaced. Didn't have a garage or covered parking at the time so that could have played into it.

To be fair my 18 is cursed and spent half of its time at a dealer for the first two years I had it, so it could be a bad comparison. 🤣

I will say that Ford stop making the Motorcraft 96G AGM battery. MIne died under warranty and Ford rep said they were discontinued so was replaced under warranty with standard non AGM Motorcraft battery.
