Sorry, forgot to mention that I do have an aftermarket stereo system. Looking to upgrade.

Thanks

I'd like to know about a better battery too. I'd like to keep the 96R battery size but all I can find is 590-600 CCA. Is there a bigger battery that can fit in the stock location?

I as well just purchased an XS D4700 AGM battery for a stereo installation upgrade. I have not installed but I’m curious if BMS will be an issue and if so is there a way to turn it off?

I’ll also note that it’s recommended from the manufacturer for the first time that you charge the battery first before you install. XS Power sells intellichargers for this purpose.

Edit:

I think I may of found the answer to my own question:

Here is what I found before when I was looking at upgrading mine:

D4700 / D3400:

Length: 9.49 / 10.24
Width: 7.48 / 7.2
Height: 6.93 / 6.75
Max Amps: 2900 / 3300
CA: 745 / 1000

The D4700 will for sure fit, D3400 might require some modification. If someone does try the 3400 instead, please post up how it works out! One not quite small hiccup would be the terminals are on opposite sides.

For what its worth, the XS Power A3400 seems to be the exact same battery as the D3400 from what I can find, just different branding (Vintage) on it and can be found much cheaper ($260 instead of $330).

D3400R is the same battery, just reversed. It would be the ideal one to use for the S550 with minor modifications.

This is good info as I'm curious how my stock battery will handle the new amp/sub install on top of the Airlift compressors, etc.

A visual for you. Cover fits, just removed for the pic.

After @abeauvier's post above, I did a search for the D3400R on eBay and came across a listing for a guy that was literally 6 minutes away from my buddies house where we met after C&C yesterday. Stopped by and tried a test fit, here are some pictures.

Seems like the box narrows down from the opening at the top as there were some lines from the battery about a 3/4-1" off the bottom. I bought it anyway and I'm going to try and make it work, I tried dremelling out the step at the bottom but that didn't take care of it from what I can tell. I didn't want to spend too much time in his driveway though! Without the cover on, I was still able to close the hood with no issues. If I can get the battery to sit lower in the box (maybe cut out the bottom corner), the cover will probably fit back on as well.

If it doesn't work out, the guy said he'll let me bring it back. Plus he apparently goes to the same Sunday meet I try to go to occasionally. Running a 24k watt system in his truck, he swapped out 6 D3400s for a big array of electric car batteries out of a C-Max.

@Nagare I’m surprised to see the D3400R fitment actually clear length and width wise. Curious if there’s a solution to find a housing for the battery that will allow deeper fitment, depth-wise or if your modifications will resolve the height issue.

If I get time this weekend, I'm going to try and remove the battery housing and see what's going on with it. It seemed like it wasn't as far down as it should be, so if I can just force it in further, that might do it. Otherwise, probably cut at the bottom corner of the short side of the box.

Also have to get the terminal hardware (or whatever the proper term is for what gets screwed into the battery) for the positive, anybody know off hand what size that is?
